Mid-afternoon in a quiet week for pubs, including this one (relatively speaking) – all tables are occupied in both bars, but I manage to find a ledge to stand next to.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Bad Seed - Bandit4.50ExcellentA golden beer with prominent New World hop flavours (Citra, Bravo, Columbus, Cascade).
Bad Seed - Walking Shadows5.00GoodA ‘Cascadian Dark Ale’, which I think is synonymous with ‘Black IPA’, but I might be wrong. This is a dark brown beer with very bitter, roast malt flavours which are not quite balanced by the strong hop flavours I was expecting. The hops do come through though and it’s still pretty good.

I had not been here before because I had been put off by the Craft name and fears of high prices. I was pleasantly surprised at the choice of real cask ales and impressed with the menus that are kept up to date with the beers on sale at the time.

A very wide selection of top-notch beers available here. I had time just for a couple of halves and a bag of Soffles. Busy, although not as crowded as in the photo above. Good to see a couple of Beavertown beers in cask format.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hastings - Four Cees APA5.70ExcellentThis beer cannot boast as many ‘C’s as Titanic Brewery’s current offering, but Cascade, Centennial, Chinook and Columbus prove quite enough for a classic, cloudy (unfined) West Coast-style APA.
Beavertown - Ajna4.00ExcellentA collaboration beer with Dogfish Head Brewery and may have been brewed in the USA, produced for this year’s Rainbow Beer project. Pinkish-red in colour. It is a tart, sour, fruity beer (raspberries?). A little bit of woodiness from oak barrel aging.

A Monday evening close to the end of the month – surely it won’t be too busy, I thought, having failed to get served in here when I tried once before. It turned out to be busy, but not over-crowded. Nice breweriana on display in the cellar bar.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Tiny Rebel - Zool4.80ExcellentPale in colour. Excellent, hoppy taste and a long finish.
Acorn - Helga IPA5.00ExcellentA tasty, amber-coloured IPA with unfamiliar Australian hops.
Acorn - 7 Seas4.70ExcellentA golden-coloured US-style Pale Ale with rye in the mix and good hop flavours.
