Made such good time on the festive journey up that my little bro and I rewarded ourselves with some swift taster halves at this splendid area POTY finalist. What this new build pub lacks in history and architectural character it more than makes up for in beer choice and quality. 9 ales on and all at £2 a pint/£1 a half before 6:30pm weekdays! We had to drag ourselves away.

| Northumberland - McCrory's Irish Stout | 4.80 | | Black and sultry with a coffee nose, possibly the nuttiest stout I've ever sampled, creamy and smooth, bitter/sour chocolate aftertaste. Spot on. |

I was driving up to see my old mate Cam in Nottingham and this pub was just off junction 20 of the M1. I had to stop off really didn't I? I got there just before 12 o'clock, when it opens, and already there was a little crowd of people waiting to get in. The interior reminded me a bit of a sports club bar but it was pleasant and anyway, it had 9 beers so who really cares what it looked like.
