Made such good time on the festive journey up that my little bro and I rewarded ourselves with some swift taster halves at this splendid area POTY finalist. What this new build pub lacks in history and architectural character it more than makes up for in beer choice and quality. 9 ales on and all at £2 a pint/£1 a half before 6:30pm weekdays! We had to drag ourselves away.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Jaipur5.90ExceptionalOutstanding again, fresh and punchy with that trademark epic hop finish. Hard to find a better IPA in 2008.
Northumberland - McCrory's Irish Stout4.80ExceptionalBlack and sultry with a coffee nose, possibly the nuttiest stout I've ever sampled, creamy and smooth, bitter/sour chocolate aftertaste. Spot on.
RCH - Double Header5.30ExcellentAmber, chocked full of flavour, sweet elderflower and vanilla notes, juicy citrus hops and good bitterness on the finish. Excellent.
Phoenix - Christmas Kiss4.50GoodCopper-coloured, light and fruity with a spicy reprise.
Fernandes - Brindle Bitter4.40GoodBetter bitter, more beer-like in appearance and a decent rounded palate.
Elland - Santa Pants5.00GoodImportantly, this was not overly sweet and malty with plenty of hops to keep the Christmas drinker interested.
Fernandes - Wakefield Pride4.50AcceptableExtremely light in colour, looked like a cider with plenty of apple on the palate. Little substance but inoffensive.
St Austell - Tribute4.20Not TriedHouse regular.
RCH - Pitchfork4.30Not Tried

I was driving up to see my old mate Cam in Nottingham and this pub was just off junction 20 of the M1. I had to stop off really didn't I? I got there just before 12 o'clock, when it opens, and already there was a little crowd of people waiting to get in. The interior reminded me a bit of a sports club bar but it was pleasant and anyway, it had 9 beers so who really cares what it looked like.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Langton - Caudle Bitter3.90AcceptableTreacle coloured beer with a slightly sickly sweet body and not many hops on the finish. Reminded me of St Austel Tribute. Not really my kind of beer.
