| Hogs Back - Tongham TEA (previously T.E.A.) | 4.20 | ![]() | Very good head and lacing presented and almost lasting on this amber-coloured bitter from Manor Farm in the village of Tongham, about 3.5 to 4 miles north-east of Farnham. This Hogs Back Brewery’s flagship ale’s acronym stands for “Traditional English Ale” and was first brewed in August 1992. A mildly bitter first bite. A hoppiness rising from its Fuggles hops grown on the brewery’s own farm in Tongham. A maltiness winning over from its English malted barley with hints of toasted caramel and butterscotch. A gentle hoppy fruitiness from dried berry fruit and a touch of spice and citrus coming to the fore before sliding downwards with a lingering sweetness. The water used in the brew is drawn from local chalk aquifers located under the North Downs ridge, and where underground layers of porous white limestone acting like a "giant sponge," absorb and store vast quantities of rainwater. This limestone should I think be extra saturated from all the recent rainfall this year so far. A moreish brew and presented well despite not keeping its lacing to the end. |
