Tasting Summary

These comments are the opinion of the individual reviewer and represent what they thought of the beer on a particular day in a particular pub. If a review is less favourable, it may be because the beer suffered somewhere in the supply chain between them and the brewery.

BlairExcellent14 Mar 2009 Black with a nice tan head. Rich with a bit of chocolate and lots of coffee. Really good.
IanExcellent09 Apr 2008 Everything in the right proportion, lovely choc, coffee, roasted malt, bitterness, bit of dark fruit. Superb.
IanExcellent31 Mar 2006 I was really pleased to find this on cask. Black beer with lasting bubbly beige head. Good aroma of dark malts, choc/coffee and toffee. Full in mouth, touch of sourness before more toffee/choc/grainy coffee. Some juicyness too. Certainly one of my favourite porters. Tad sweeter maybe than most, but with a dry finish

Martin the MildmanExceptional04 Jun 2009 More like Harveys should be, thick mouthfeel with lots of sweet malt but also some hoppiness towards the finish. As this is normally a March beer, I suspect this cask has been in the cellar for 2 months! A classic Porter. My score 17/20.
