Late afternoon. Pub #2 on my heritage quest. The tiling really is superb and extensive. The pub itself serves no real ales. Some might describe it as a bit rough but the that gentleman of our site Chris Excel (RIP) said “ attracting price conscious customers” bless him. I had a half of strong perry, took a good few pictures and engaged with the locals who were very proud of their wall art.

Lunchtime between trains. This is now a Craft Union pub and is attracting price conscious customers. In spite of COVID restrictions a chap came and sat at our table telling us that he normally goes to the Wetherspoons opposite but they had re-introduced queuing, so he was in here instead. It was interesting to read Dosser's review of the Spoons later.
| Timothy Taylor - Landlord | 4.30 | | A round of one and a half pints came to three pounds twenty five pence, but I would rather have paid a bit more for a better pint. |

Late afternoon ahead of a train to London. Pub sparsely populated, but some sort of argument going on and darkening the atmosphere.
| Black Sheep - Monty Python's Flying Circus | 4.50 | | Described on the clip as an ‘IPA’ but is in fact a slightly fruity but rather bland Bitter. |
| Adnams - Broadside | 4.70 | Not Tried | |

Lunchtime visit and fairly quiet. Just two cask ales on today, one of which was a house beer.

Quiet, late-afternoon on a Sunday.

I just missed my London train from Hastings and had 55 minutes to break down – this seemed the obvious place to go.

I too have not been in here for a great many years – maybe 32 years in my case. In fact, this could well be my first pint in here of legal drinking age. Good to see the tiling is all still in place. And I note that the gents toilets have moved (I have a good memory for a pub toilet).
| Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 3.40 | | Really excellent, pale hoppy pint. On great form. |
