Andrew ended up admitting he preferred a badly made beer to something more drinkable, oh my!!
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopdaemon - Green Daemon5.00AcceptableTouch of rubber but otherwise a good cask lager

Busy in the garden so we sat round by the parrot and Ian told me all about his plans for a lambic cider.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wantsum - 13813.80GoodRustic, cloudy, unsophisticated. Smells of medows, it of lemon grass, bit of nettles, touch of tarmac. A sorbet beer.

Ended up drinking bottled beer, which is a shame, except the Young's Double Chocolate is brilliant as is the London Special Ale.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopdaemon - Golden Braid3.70AcceptableAll agreed this had a bit of burnt plastic, rubber to it.

Busy so we sat in the garden until the cold forced us back in. Managed to get a table then and Martin and Jane had some food. I like this pub and I like the fact they always seem to have a Kent Micro as a guest.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wantsum - More's Head (previously 3.4%)3.50GoodThis was weird. It was like drinking a rustic beer in that it had real farm yard flavours about it with a hint of sulphurous-eggy spells. Tasted of toasted sunflower seeds and of a liquidised farm-yard. It was cloudy and not in great condition but even so it just had something about it.
Hopdaemon - Golden Braid3.70AcceptableBit of an odd flavour to it; kind of like the essence of perspex or rubber or something. The condition wasn't great either. I drank it all though so it was okay.
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Young's London Special (was Special)4.50AcceptableIn good condition but served a bit too cold for me. I remember this beer being a bit of nothing really.

After the Buthcer's Arms, I had an hour in Canterbury before the next train went. So I thought that I would take in a few pubs. This was my first stop. Not too busy as the France vs England rugby was still on. New glass front doors. Still a very attractive old pub.

Wantsum - Black Pig4.80GoodBest Wantsum beer I have had. Good choc and coffee flavours. Lovely porter style beer. Good flavour, excellent finish.

Sat at the back and watched the parrot flick sunflower seed shells on the floor. Some kind of folk-jazz-50's fusion music was playing on the stereo and I nearly asked what it was on the way out but then thought, nah.

Virtually empty at around 4pm. Sat by the fire and escaped a snow shower.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wantsum - Turbulent Priest4.40GoodThe Parrot seems to be supplying Wantsum ales pretty regularly amd I've been impressed with what I've tried. This was, however, a bit one dimensional. It's mid brown, with a bubbly, soap-sud head. Big sherbert hit of hops in the mouth, quite sour and nettley. Not much depth, no real balance. Not bad though, not as good as the Black Pig from a few weeks ago.

Late afternoon after a meeting. Just a handfull of people in. Nice cosy feel to the place, the furniture has been rearranged a bit which makes the place seem more spacious and the parrot is now next to the bar instead of the door, he doesn't seem to mind.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wantsum - Black Pig4.80ExcellentSaid excellent may just have been good, but it was the first pint for a week. Had a couple. It's black, roasty malt with bitter finish. A bit thin perhaps, no real punch, but had 2 without noticing. Good stuff really.

Now what about the parrot, I mean that actual parrot. Is he (or she) a benefit to the pub or a distraction. He's certainly a noisy swine with an ear piercing screech, but being an animal lover and quasi vegetarian I kind of quite like him.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wantsum - 13813.80GoodReally good this. A bit hazy, mid brown with foamy lasting head. Nice earthy hop and a little floral citrus. Excellent session beer.
