Visits Details

29 Dec 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Despite being in soon after 11am on a Saturday morning the place was already fully seated.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Revolutions - Atomic Blonde4.50AcceptableSome hop bitterness but little malt character and a dryish appley taste of acetaldehyde. My score 12/20.
Andwell - Ding Dong4.50AcceptableDidn't work for me, too overspiced with something seasonal. Couldn't really make out what was lurking underneath. My score 11/20.
Brains - Captain Cat4.20AcceptableSome bitterness and a little yeastiness but little hop character to speak of. Some fruit in the finish. My score 13/20.
09 Dec 2012 (Philip Pirrip)
Arrived 2230 hours as time bell rang. Madness to close this busy house before the day had even properly truly begun.

It was only just after 10.00am and I was the second customer, the place soon became reasonably busy with people having a beer accompanied by a full English breakfast. I had a couple of pints before catching a train to Kensington Olympia for the Great British Beer Festival.
BeerABVScoreNotes

Busy on a Saturday afternoon - standing room only.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Elgood's - Black Dog Mild3.60ExcellentA good sample of this classic East Anglian mild. Black and malty with caramel and liquorice notes, low hoppiness and some fruit in the finish. My score 15/20
09 Feb 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
BeerABVScoreNotes
Leeds - Midnight Bell4.80ExcellentExcellent sample here with a full bodied rich chocolate malt flavour and low hop bitterness in this dark brown strong mild. My score 16/20
17 Nov 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
Still busy here at 10pm on a Thursday evening.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Acorn - Sorachi Ace IPA5.00AcceptableStrong amber bitter, quite bitter but not much flavour from the Sorachi hop fortunately. As it's a brew for Nicholson's the hop rate was probably lowered. Still has a bitter finish. My score 13/20.
22 Sep 2011 (Martin the Mildman)
Very busy on a Thursday evening with no seats available.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Cropton (see also Great Yorkshire) - Red IPA5.00AcceptableAs it says, a Red IPA, very bitter with high hop bittering. Little malt character. Very dry and bitter finish. My score 13/20.
23 Mar 2011 (ChrisE)
