Early evening a few in the left side bar, we sat in the right side by the entrance. Engaging barman - table service and banter.

Second pub in the tour. We sat in the back on the sofas and concluded that a economic system based on bartering would cause customs and excise to take a dim view.

1950-2139hrs, fairly quiet for this time of the evening, we sat in the left hand bar. Welcoming and friendly, the barman doubled as waiter service during our stay. I've not listed the KeyKeg beers on offer.

Early evening, just one other customer - good chat with him and the lady serving. CAMRA discount offered without prompting. Possibly my best visit here.

Late Sunday’s afternoon. Heard that it was £3 a pint for the real ales for CAMRA member so thought I’d try it again. OK - half a dozen in but spread through the 3 rooms. To me this falls between two stools - too big for a micropub but no bar making it difficult for those ad-hoc conversations on which a good pub thrives.

Mid afternoon. Quiet. Disappointing selection of real ales - 3 on the board - one withdrawn after I ordered it - one rather iffy. 12 cask beers on the board - does this have something to do with it? When will we get a proper micro-pub in Canterbury?

The pub is found in Canterbury, Kent, CT1 1BE.

Alehouse in Northgate in an attractive and historic ancient half-timbered building which opened on Tuesday 22nd March 2016. There are 2 rooms at the front separated by a low doorway, the left hand one of which has a log burning stove. There is a rear room with low tables and chairs and some sofas. Generally at seat service applies here and the cask ales and ciders are served under gravity dispense from a temperature controlled cellar room at the back. 10 taps on the outside wall of the cellar room dispense KeyKeg beers. All beers and ciders are listed on a large blackboard on the wall partition between the front rooms. Will inevitably be arguments as to whether this is a Micropub or not. Owned by the same individual as The Just Reproach in Deal.

We have visited this pub 40 times, seen 79 different beers and tried 39 of them.
