Mid-evening after a frustrating shopping experience at Westfield. I missed the launch here of Twickenham Brewery’s new ‘Old Hands’ range a few days ago and hoped there may be some left tonight – a bit disappointed to find just a couple of keg versions still available.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Tap East - Black IPA6.00ExcellentSomewhere in a grey area between Black IPA and Stout I think.
Southwark - Harvard APA5.50ExcellentFull-bodied and tasty.
Twickenham (also uses sub-brand Old Hands) - Old Hands Coconut Porter6.00AcceptableFrom keg. A sweetish, black Porter. Dry coconut tastes. Slight medicinal taint spoils.
Oakham - JHB3.80Not Tried

I arrive here to find that I am 24 hours early for a beer event. Never mind, my old mate Volney is in and we prop up a corner of the bar for a while, talking about incompetent football administrators and 80s bands. The pub is unusually crowded tonight.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Oakham - Inferno4.00ExcellentI don’t drink this very often, but I should as it is very nice.
Tap East - Black IPA6.00ExcellentThis cask at 5.6% - it has also been at 6.0%. A very lush Black IPA, less hoppy than some and verging into Stout territory.
Tap East - East End Mild3.50Not Tried
Southwark - Bermondsey Best4.40Not Tried

Busy tonight with Thursday evening crowds.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Windsor & Eton - Conqueror5.00ExcellentExcellent Black IPA, an all-too-scarce style at the present.
Windsor & Eton - Brew 882 Seattle Porter4.80ExcellentVery tasty.
Magic Rock - Highwire Grapefruit5.50ExcellentFrom a keg of some sort and very expensive. But what a lovely taste.
Tap East - East End Mild3.50Not Tried
Signature Brew - Red Wedge4.70Not Tried

Mid-evening. Three well-refreshed chaps at the bar started to become a bit irritating with their ‘singing’, although they were harmless enough.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Tap East - A.P.A. (American Pale Ale)4.30ExcellentFresh and juicy.
Beavertown - Holy Cowbell5.60GoodOn keg dispense. Apparently it’s International Stout Day, so I forked out for a half of this. Absolutely lush tastes, but impacted by chilling and high carbonation.

Mid-evening on a Monday and on the quiet side.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Redemption - Pale Ale3.80ExcellentThis cask dry-hopped with Chinook and very lovely.
Shiny - Happy People4.20AcceptableGolden. This turned out to be the last pint out and, although I happily accepted it after a taster, it was clearly not at its best.

Hard to believe, but tonight is the fifth anniversary of the opening of Westfield Shopping Centre in Stratford. Whilst Tinie Tempah is doing whatever it is he does upstairs somewhere at the official party, there is an altogether different birthday party going on in here for an appreciative crowd, with special beers and chocolate cake. The beer was faultless tonight.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Tap East - Tonic Ale3.00ExcellentA special cask of this always-great beer that has been dry-hopped with experimental hop variety #431. Especially good.
Redemption - Tap East Special4.70ExcellentA lovely, golden and hoppy and fruity beer. It turns out to be a brewery blend of Kazbek and Big Chief with added pineapple juice (said the man in the Redemption T-shirt).
Shiny - Pail (Ahtanum)4.10ExcellentAnother excellent single-hop beer in the Pail series.
Kernel (The Kernel) - Burgundy Barrel Aged Biere de Saison5.00ExcellentOn key-keg dispense. I saved this fancy-pants beer until last. Mouth-puckering sour and dry. Boy was it dry. Probably should have drunk it first, not last.
Tap East - No. 6 Cherry Blonde4.20ExcellentThe No. 6 with added cherry.
East London (ELB) - Pale Ale4.00GoodA special cask, dry-hopped with First Gold. Nothing wrong with it, but there were so many good beers here tonight that I’m relegating it to ‘good’.
Tap East - Cafe au Lait in the Morning5.60Not Tried
09 Sep 2016 (Stephen Harris)
Relatively quiet in here for a Friday evening session.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Tap East - Enigma Double IPA7.20ExceptionalOn key-keg dispense, a collaboration beer with Beak Brewery. A hazy amber colour. A huge smack in the face of good hop flavours.
Moor - Radiance5.00ExcellentA cloudy (unfined) golden beer – excellent.
Siren Craft - Vermont Tea Party3.60ExcellentA pale beer, flavoured with Earl Grey tea.
Shiny - Pail (Comet, Pekko)4.00ExcellentVersion of this pale beer using Comet and Pekko hops. I enjoyed every drop – just my thing.
