12 Apr 2023 (Jack William)
Mid evening book club meeting. Colin was coping very well with a busy pub - in both bars. Enjoyable time even though this month’s book was not well received.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 5 | 4.40 | | Couldn’t fault this - and far superior to the Long Blonde. |
Long Man - Long Blonde | 3.80 | | A little hazy. |
03 Mar 2023 (Jack William)
Early evening- back to my old favourite. Good group of regulars including occasional visitor Samphire Paul. Impromptu geography quiz - landlady asking - everyone joining in.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - HPA Hoppy Pale Ale | 3.60 | | Superb flavour for a low strength. |
Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - Single Hop Ernest | 5.10 | | 4.2% version. |
14 Feb 2023 (Jack William)
Early evening visit - filled up quickly with regulars. Very pleasant. Ales from two of Kent’s most consistently good brewers - both in top condition.

Kent - Black Gold | 4.00 | | |

Afternoon visit - quite busy at 2 and filling up nicely with regulars (human and canine) by 4. Cheese and biscuits being offered around. Log fire. Excellent.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Rye Pale Ale | 4.00 | | Superb example of this seasonal ale. |
Old Dairy (being contract brewed after it closed) - Red Top | 3.80 | Not Tried
16 Oct 2022 (Jack William)
Stop 2, Sunday cycle. My first visit on a Sunday afternoon since the change in opening hours earlier this year. The place was buzzing with drinkers.
Kent - Black Gold | 4.00 | | Top notch. |
Old Dairy (being contract brewed after it closed) - Über Brew | 3.80
01 Oct 2022 (Jack William)
Cycled over for an unusual Saturday afternoon session. Open at 1 today as part of their green hop event. (Also open at 1 Sunday as usual). Two more in the wings: Green & Pale from Canterbury and Old Dairy’s Extra Pale Ale.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Green Hop Ale (2022) | 4.80 | | Gadds - they just know how to do this so well. |
Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - Green & Black | 4.20 | | Full of flavour, a firm coffee-coloured head and black as the night. |
Kent - Sunset | 4.30 | | The only non-green on. I do like Kent Brewery. |
Old Dairy (being contract brewed after it closed) - Brown Ale Green Hop | 4.30 | | Good condition- but I wasn’t taken with the flavour. |
01 Sep 2022 (Jack William)
Early evening cycle ride. Filled up nicely with regulars by around 6. Some tequila samples passed round by a one of the locals.
Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - Godiva Red | 4.10 | | Full bodied red ale in top condition. |
Old Dairy (being contract brewed after it closed) - Über Brew | 3.80 | | Not at its best. |
10 Aug 2022 (Jack William)
Evening for the book club, confessed I hadn’t been able to get through Pride and Prejudice, I was not the only one. Good crowd of regulars plus some newbies I think. Nice to see.
Old Dairy (being contract brewed after it closed) - Copper Top | 4.10
Hopdaemon - Skrimshander IPA | 4.50 | | Good but rather on the sweet side for me. |
