01 Oct 2022 (Jack William)
Cycled over for an unusual Saturday afternoon session. Open at 1 today as part of their green hop event. (Also open at 1 Sunday as usual). Two more in the wings: Green & Pale from Canterbury and Old Dairy’s Extra Pale Ale.
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Green Hop Ale (2022) | 4.80 | | Gadds - they just know how to do this so well. |
| Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - Green & Black | 4.20 | | Full of flavour, a firm coffee-coloured head and black as the night. |
| Kent - Sunset | 4.30 | | The only non-green on. I do like Kent Brewery. |
| Old Dairy (being contract brewed after it closed) - Brown Ale Green Hop | 4.30 | | Good condition- but I wasn’t taken with the flavour. |
01 Sep 2022 (Jack William)
Early evening cycle ride. Filled up nicely with regulars by around 6. Some tequila samples passed round by a one of the locals.
| Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - Godiva Red | 4.10 | | Full bodied red ale in top condition. |
| Old Dairy (being contract brewed after it closed) - Über Brew | 3.80 | | Not at its best. |
10 Aug 2022 (Jack William)
Evening for the book club, confessed I hadn’t been able to get through Pride and Prejudice, I was not the only one. Good crowd of regulars plus some newbies I think. Nice to see.
| Old Dairy (being contract brewed after it closed) - Copper Top | 4.10 | | |
| Hopdaemon - Skrimshander IPA | 4.50 | | Good but rather on the sweet side for me. |
03 Aug 2022 (Jack William)
Back to regular haunt. Early evening, mainly regulars in. Bumped into a neighbour (we live within 200 yards of each other, 14 miles away) - said he’d been coming here for over 40 years - never seen him in before.
| Old Dairy (being contract brewed after it closed) - Red Top | 3.80 | | Top condition. |
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - She Sells Sea Shells | 4.70 | | A little lifeless. |
25 Jun 2022 (Jack William)
Mid afternoon on the middle day of the Carpenters beer festival. A good mix of locals and visitors spreading out onto the village green. Excellent session. 7 ales on with some more in the wings apparently.
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 3 | 5.00 | | At its best. Such body. |
| Bellfield - Lawless Village IPA | 4.50 | | Travels well. |
| Kent - Zingiber | 4.10 | | Of course it is good - it’s Kent. Just a hint of ginger. |
| Salopian - Sunlit Uplands | 4.10 | | |
| Hopdaemon - Incubus | 4.00 | Not Tried | |
| Romney Marsh - Marsh Sunset | 4.80 | Not Tried | |
| Old Dairy (being contract brewed after it closed) - Jubilee | 4.00 | Not Tried | |
08 Jun 2022 (Jack William)
June book club meet. A regular face asked me if I was Jack from the Pubs and Beer site, and what a good site it is. So come on Pete - sign up and start contributing, it’s fun and free and great to look back on your old entries and see your own map of pubs visited.
| Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - Luverlee Juberlee | 3.90 | | Well rounded, top condition. |
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Dr Sunshine's Special Friendly English Wheat Ale | 4.20 | | |
| Kent - Black Gold | 4.00 | Not Tried | |
11 May 2022 (Jack William)
Early evening - book club. Pub was thriving with locals, book club irregulars, a couple of other cyclists and a family of 3 Ukrainians who are being housed by one of the regulars. A couple of dogs milling around also - I love this place. Romney Marsh Sunset also on at 4.8% - very good dark ale.
| Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - Olicana | 4.00 | | |
03 May 2022 (Jack William)
Early doors. Cold but a brief sunny spell so we sat outside and pondered the low level of the pond due to the recent lack of rainfall.
| Hopdaemon - Incubus | 4.00 | | |
| Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - Olicana | 4.00 | | Very pleasant oatmeal pale. |
28 Mar 2022 (Jack William)
Early doors (15 mins after 1700 opening) - I was ready for a pint after a 20 mile ride - Colin was not ready to serve though - coal fire needing to be revived from last night.
Very good pint, and half a dozen regulars in by the time I left at 1800.
| Hopdaemon - Session Ale | 3.80 | | Superb pint for a 3.8. Getting good reviews all round. |
| Kent - Black Gold | 4.00 | Not Tried | |
20 Feb 2022 (Jack William)
My first Sunday afternoon visit to this pub. Jolly crowd of locals that waxed and waned over a couple of hours.
| Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - The Wife of Bath's Ale | 3.90 | | Full bodied Amber ale in good nick. |
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 7 | 3.80 | | Rather bland. One of Gadd’s weakest, a while since I had this. Underwhelmed. |
