Another visit to the award winning pub, and the conversation was about events on Saturday evening. Blair from Fannit announced that he was a Vegan, not sure this is a wise move when Simon and Ian are in.Blair faces a moral and ethical dilema, should he even be in the Butchers arms at all and are there any animal products in beer!! Answers on a postcard please.Martyn enters the 21st century today by installing a PC at home, so look out for his blog! Handfull of regulars in including KB Brian(63), SN Ken and the boys, Andy the Onion.

Had a fantastic night last night. Was heaving early on, didn't stand in the same spot for more than about 30 seconds. The banter was great as always, I took a fair amount of abuse but it was all in good fun.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter4.00ExceptionalA magnificient pint. Smooth, malty and incredibly easy to drink. The best 'best' there is.
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - ESB5.50ExcellentReally good pint. Rich and fruity with a fair amount of malt.
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's)3.40ExcellentExcellent as always, light, hoppy with a grassy flavour to it.
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - Gale's HSB4.80ExcellentThis was marked as HSB, but with an abv of 5.5% and it was dark, almost porter like so I'm not sure. Regardless though, it was lovely.

Larkins - Porter5.20ExceptionalSuperb, dark black/ruby and with a perfect white head. Even better than last night. Rich roast malt, chocolate and caramel with the hops coming through. I can't believe this is 5.2%. I may have to come back tomorrow to see how it is changing

Having seen Mick's visit I knew the Dark Conspiracy would be on. One of the brewers of this was a friend of mine, Phil, so I had to have it. It was fairly quiet in the pub but then it was a Tuesday night. Martyn had been up to see the Royal Oak in Sussex and was telling me what he thought of the place.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Dark Conspiracy4.90ExceptionalI'd seen on one of Phil's websites that he thought this was an "American Fireside Porter". Given that description I was expecting not to like it overly and had a fear it might be like Porterhouse's Celebration Stout. Fortunately it was nothing like it. It was black in colour and had a milky body with a slight sourness to it. The hops were superb, subtle yet pervasive. There was a slight hint of honey flavours and some mild burnt malt too. It reminded me of really good Larkin’s Porter combined with really good Black Cat Mild. Top stuff.

Real ales are kept on gravity dispense in a cold room to the right and you will view this when you walk through it to the unisex toilet at the rear. Displays a Micropub Association Certificate of Registration warranting, annually, that it adheres to the tenets and ethics of the Association's definition of a micropub. Since post-Covid re-opening in October 2021 now open 5-8 Tuesday to Friday only. The landlord and founder of the Micropub Association, Martyn Hillier, was awarded an MBE in the 2024 New Years Honours list for services to Business and to Hospitality.
