We arrived at opening time, and before long there was a group of regulars enjoying the ales.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - The Wife of Bath's Ale3.90ExcellentMy first pint from Canterbury Ales, so I was looking forward to this, and I was not disappointed. A golden, lemon zesty beer. Very drinkable.

Met up with a few old friends I hadn't seen in a long time. I can see this place becoming my pub of choice, good friendly atmosphere and always an interesting beer or two.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 73.80ExcellentJust a top notch session pale ale.
Wantsum - Black Pig4.80ExcellentThis beer has improved steadily since I first tried it and thought it was pretty mediocre, now it's a lovely beer. Roasted malt, a little fruit in there and a bit of smoke, great body to boot.
Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - The Miller's Ale (originally 4.5%)4.20Not Tried

My first visit here and I was very pleasantly surprised. It's a really nice place to sit and sink a few pints and just the right size to always feel busy.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Oakham - White Dwarf4.30ExcellentFruity, hoppy and incredibly drinkable. I've only ever had this in winter but I imagine it's close to the perfect summer beer.
Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - The Miller's Ale (originally 4.5%)4.20PoorThis wasn't great. Poor condition, very wishy-washy with just a hint of malt and fruit. Shame but I'm sure it will improve in time.

Roger Corbett and I spent most of the Friday evening session in here, there was a good crowd of people enjoying both the ales and the conversation. People were discussing the usual topics in this pub, namely beer, Tomson & Wotton, pork pies, sausages, and mustard.

Saturday lunchtime. Good smattering of people in enjoying the beer and conversation. Pork pie looks good. Good little corner pub. Beers served on gravity in Gadds glasses. Local football and Stephen Fry were topics of conversation.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 54.40GoodBit cold but lovely biscuit malts
Hopdaemon - Dominator5.10AcceptableA bit like the Gadds 5, this is too cold and also feels like its been kept too cold as well so the condition does not come through properly and therefore release all the flavours. Very little condition even swirling the glass. Some syrupy fruity malt. Gravity can expose lack of conditioning

The second day of opening, and I felt that a visit was long overdue. I arrived just after 12:00 and the pub gradually filled up with a good mix of people including a former employee of Tomson and Wotton Brewery, some local historians, and Martyn from the Butchers Arms.
BeerABVScoreNotes
