Visits Details
03 Sep 2013 (Stephen Harris)
A late visit in the hour up to closing – we sat outside amongst the smokers.
Tap East - Smokestack Porter | 6.50 | | More mellow and less smoky today I thought. |
Buxton - Jacob's Ladder | 2.70 | | Perhaps the low strength did not suit the late hour. |
Woodforde's - Norfolk Nog | 4.60 | Not Tried
Tap East - Coffee in the Morning (has been 5.7% too) | 5.60 | Not Tried
Tap East - Niwot | 6.20 | Not Tried

Inevitably a group of us ended up in here upon returning to civilisation after a day out in Essex.
Tap East - Niwot | 6.20 | | A heavy, full-bodied red ale. |
Tap East - Smokestack Porter | 6.50 | | Smoky. |
Buxton - Jacob's Ladder | 2.70 | | A full-flavoured, low strength, golden beer in the style of Redemption Trinity. |

An evening of US beers has drawn quite a good crowd to Tap East. Two special cask beers brewed on site in collaboration with American brewers, plus a good selection of US rarities and specials on keg. The keg beers come at a hefty price. I list all the cask beers, plus those keg beers I drank.
Tap East - Smokestack Porter | 6.50 | | Very dark brown in colour. Dry, roasty and smoky. |
Brooklyn - Scorcher #366 | 4.60 | | On keg dispense. Very fizzy and needed vigorous de-gassing action. Once settled it proved to be golden, hazy, light, alcoholic grapefruit juice. |
Anchor - Fort Ross Farmhouse Ale | 7.20 | | On keg dispense. Amber in colour. A rough, sour-ish, pungent, Belgian-style beer. |
Flying Dog - Pineapple Saison | 6.10 | | On keg dispense. Golden in colour. Sweet and sour. Loads of pineapple flavours. Quite extraordinary really. Over-carbonated. |
Tap East - Niwot | 6.20 | | A heavy-duty, thick, strong, red ale. |
Brooklyn - Silver Anniversary Lager | 9.00 | | On keg dispense. Strong and sweet. Not really to my liking. |
Oakham - JHB | 3.80 | Not Tried
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Tap East - Tonic Ale | 3.00 | Not Tried

Tap East - Coffee in the Morning (has been 5.7% too) | 5.60 | Not Tried

Early evening and quite busy – the usual mix of shoppers and passers-through.
Harbour - Antipodean Rye | 5.70 | | Golden and opaque. Really nice. Smooth rye and malt background. Lush pacific hops. Obvious strength. That’s the second day running I’ve drunk an ‘exceptional’ beer. |
Tap East - IPA (Amarillo) | 5.70 | | The name of this beer tells you all. Luscious. |
Harviestoun - Grizzly | 3.80 | | An interesting, slightly spicy, slightly fruity, brown ale. |
Brewster's - Marquis Bitter | 3.80 | Not Tried
Tap East - Tonic Ale | 3.00 | Not Tried

Mid-evening visit and there is plenty of through-flow of customers.
Tap East - Open Brewhouse - Lone Ranger | 6.00 | | Wow, this is tasting good. Rich, complex, dark, malty beer. Smooth and silky. |
Tap East - Tonic Ale | 3.00 | | Low strength, high hop rate. |
Waen - King Cnut | 3.70 | | Black. A full-flavoured, low-strength stout. Plenty of roasted malt flavours and just a hint of sourness. |

Tap East - Porter | 4.60 | Not Tried
14 Jul 2013 (Stephen Harris)
Sunday evening visit. There is a music event on at the Olympic Park and the whole area is in lockdown. Accessing the pub is not straightforward and there are few customers. A few that are here are happy-looking ticket touts.

Stratford was heaving with people going to the Wireless Music Festival, and crowd control was in operation. I arrived in the pub at 22:59 and was served immediately which is just as well as they stopped serving promptly at 23:00. The chap behind the bar told me that the youngsters outside had generally left the pub alone as it does not sell their kind of beer although he did admit that cider stocks were getting a bit low.
Tap East - IPA CSCC | 5.80 | | Really tasty, and a fine end to a good evening. |
RedWillow - Fathomless | 5.20 | Not Tried
Oakham - Eugene's Lair | 4.30 | Not Tried
Tap East - Open Brewhouse - Stout Ladies (in collaboration with The Tap East Girls) | 5.00 | Not Tried
Tap East - Open Brewhouse - Higgs Boson (in collaboration with Fuller's) | 2.50 | Not Tried
Rooster's - The Accomplice | 5.70 | Not Tried
