Mid-evening visit and the pub is very quiet.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Tap East - Urban Hop4.80ExcellentAmber-coloured, ‘Green Hop’ beer, made with hops from Jim the brewer’s garden. Good hoppy character.
Tap East - London Extra5.30GoodHighly competent beer, but I find the big malt character a little harsh. it turns out that the recipe is from the 1820s, not 1920s as I previously thought.

Very quiet in here tonight – the congregation not reaching double figures whilst I was in. The heady days of the Olympics, like the summer, seem long ago.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Tap East - East End Mild3.50ExcellentVery dark, very choco, very good.
Oakham - Harvest Spirit4.30ExcellentBraggots seem to be all the rage at the moment and I’m getting quite a taste for them. That’s ‘Honey-infused Ales’. This one has a good load of honey on a firm malt base with hops presence also there.

Not too busy late on a Friday afternoon.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Tap East - Poplar Pale Ale4.00ExcellentExcellent hoppy pale ale with a good malt kick to complement the citrus hop bite. Good hoppy finish. My score 16/20.

Keen to see how this venue was coping with the Olympics crowds I was delighted to see hordes of multi-national lanyarded uniformed Gamesters relaxing after a day's exertions. Both Tap East beers were, at £3.30 pp, the very best value in Olympicsland London E20 for sure.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Tap East - JWB (Jim Wilson Bitter)3.80ExcellentFirst rate fruity bitter

The Olympic buzz has returned.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Tap East - Moai Pacific Ale4.70ExcellentIntensely hopped pale beer with both bitter and fruity hop character.
Tap East - London Extra5.30GoodAn amber-coloured beer based upon a 1920s recipe. Heavily malty and bitter. Good, but not my kind of thing really.

Relative calm in here after a frantic few weeks of trade. Mostly locals, but the first few Paralympians are in evidence.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Harviestoun - Dragonfly3.60ExcellentAmber/gold in colour, with plenty of aroma hops. Light body, fruity hop character, dry and bitter finish.
Tap East - JWB (Jim Wilson Bitter)3.80GoodA bit darker in colour I think than when I drank this before. A good, balanced bitter.

This pub has had a great buzz in recent weeks, and now that the Olympics have finally started it is an absolutely prime spot to compare notes with sports fans, team staff, camera crews etc.. from the world over. There are even a few real live Olympians around (although not actually in the pub itself).
BeerABVScoreNotes
Tap East - Baby-Faced Assassin7.00ExcellentFierce, US-style IPA.
Tap East - IPA (Bramling Cross)5.20GoodSharp IPA with a hint of black fruit from the hops.

Evening visit until close. No Olympics fever hereabouts yet. A good hubbub of conversation.

Crowded inside and outside – probably the busiest I have seen this pub so far. 7:30 pm on a Friday onwards
BeerABVScoreNotes
Liverpool Organic - Best Bitter4.20GoodA pale beer with lots of lemony hops. Long bitter hop finish.
Celt Experience (now brands are owned by Evans Evans) - Native Storm4.40AcceptableA brown bitter with a spicy, yeasty taste – I suspect that it had been shaken up or was barrel-end. Should be better than this I think.
Lovibonds - Henley Dark4.80PoorOn keg dispense. I had really enjoyed this toasted dark beer at Cask a while ago. But here it was just cold and very fizzy and largely tasteless. Remind me not to order a keg beer at this pub again.

Bustling with an after-work crowd.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Tap East - Coffee in the Morning (has been 5.7% too)5.60GoodThe words ‘full-flavoured’ hardly do justice to this black-coloured coffee beer. Bitter, roasted, coffee bean flavours dominate.
Tap East - East End Mild3.50AcceptableThis example a bit past its best. Chocolatey background, but dominated by a bitter taste.
Buxton - Bitter3.80Not Tried
