27 Sep 2012 (McGargle)
Busy. Excellent service.
Firestone Walker - Wookey Jack (keg) | 8.30 | | Described as a Black IPA this drank as a hopped up Imperial Stout. Booming grain and hop aromas, rich, almost oily, mouthfeel with fabulous hop presence. Intense dry finish. |
20 Sep 2012 (McGargle)
Really busy. Only three staff and one was filling the fridge.
Firestone Walker - Union Jack (keg) | 7.50 | | I was expecting a lot of this golden beer but it was just OK. No real presence from either from malt or hops. Disguised its alcohol well. |
16 Aug 2012 (McGargle)
Long waits at the the bar. Three staff but only one serving; one filling the fridge and one marking up the chalk board. Surely these routine jobs could be done at less busy times.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Dalston Black IPA (keg) | 7.00 | Not Tried | Just had a curry so unfair to rate. Equivalent to £6.15 a pint!! |
25 Jul 2012 (McGargle)
Either third time around guests or BrewDogs own. Decided to try bottles but the staff had no clue about serving. Vuur & Vlam or Port Wipeout IPA do not like to be shaken before opening.
19 Jul 2012 (McGargle)
Struggled to get a full pint. Bar staff said they like to serve with a 'continental head'. I suggested I prefer Scottish value.
Cromarty - Happy Chappy | 4.10 | | On keg. Tasted like Dead Pony Club - think their lines were crossed. |
03 Jul 2012 (Ray)
No guest beers available nor the more interesting BrewDog offerings; Hunter, Chaos, AB:10. If this is the beer revolution I'm not impressed. Settled for a bottle of Green Flash Hop Head.
27 Jun 2012 (Ray)
Catch up log. Fear that as the price goes up the beer quality is heading the other way. On all three visits the bar was quiet whereas six months ago it would have been rammed.
BrewDog - IPA is Dead - HBC (keg) | 6.70 | | Tired malts dominate a thin hop. Grainy and dry. Maybe 2* really. |
BrewDog - IPA is Dead - Challenger (keg) | 6.10 | | Badly constructed. Grainy malts and some drying bitterness but zero from the hops. |
Lagunitas - A Little Sumpin' Sumpin' (keg) | 7.50 | | This should have been a booming New World IPA instead it just felt tired. |
16 Dec 2011 (McGargle)
Busy. New staff settling in well.
Stone - IPA (keg) | 6.90 | | |
BrewDog - Hops Kill Nazis (keg) | 7.80
Stone - Ruination (keg) | 7.70
06 Dec 2011 (Ray)
First visit to a BrewDog pub for my brother from Australia. He loved it and really liked the tasting tray offering 4 x 1/3pt glasses. Good olives as well.
Stone - Ruination (keg) | 7.70 | | Resinous, booming hops, very bitter. Served cool but not cold. Controlled carbonation. |
Stone - Oaked Arrogant Bastard (keg) | 7.20 | | Nearly 2*. Drank almost like a porter,slightly astringent finish. |
04 Dec 2011 (McGargle)
Music night with a rather jaded singer/guitarist.
Stone - Ruination (keg) | 7.70 | | Perfectly balanced hoppy bitter beer. |
