Mid evening visit - my first here for several months. Very quiet but superb for close conversation. Pub has just won a local newspaper, Thanet Times, "voted for by readers" award as Thanet Pub of the Year.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Whitstable - East India Pale Ale (or EIPA)4.10ExcellentVery good but I felt I had to return to the green hopped whilst it was still available
Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - Obama's Green Hop Honey Ale (collaboration with Canterbury Brewers)4.70ExcellentA green hopped ale. Brewed by Canterbury Brewers (the Foundry brewpub people) on the Canterbury Ales (Chartham) plant as a collaboration. Had that distinctivenes of fresh hopping that I felt Eddie Gadd's beer last week did not but readers will disagree!

2000 hours visit and "strangers" serving as the guvnors were attending the opening of the new St Peter's, Broadstairs Micropub the The Four Candles Alehouse. They arrived back around 2020 hours and prompted me to up sticks and try it too.

The pub is found in Westgate-on-Sea, Kent, CT8 8RE.

Another of the new generation of Micropubs. This single storey building is situated close to Westgate-on-Sea railway station in an alleyway between the Carlton Cinema and Coral's bookmakers. The pub has an almost complete collection of Good Beer Guides from 1975 onwards. A mixture of breweriana and kitchenalia adorn the walls and lampshades are made from upside-down colanders. Usually 4 real ales on sale served from a cooled cellar room in the corner which has a viewing window. 2014 Thanet CAMRA Branch Pub of the Year. Changed hands in May 2016 as the original owners Pete and Gwyneth retired from the business. Local CAMRA branch Micropub of the Year 2019 and 2020 and overall local CAMRA branch Pub of the Year 2019 and 2020 too.

We have visited this pub 59 times, seen 118 different beers and tried 78 of them.
