An enjoyable evening, for the presentation of the All-London CAMRA Club of the Year award (although somehow I managed to miss the presentation itself). Eleven casks drained, such was the popularity of the evening.
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Ancho Cocoa Stout | 6.40 | | Superb chocolate Stout. |
Five Points - Brick Field Brown | 5.40 | | Another chance at Five Points’ excellent new Brown Ale. |
Brew Buddies - Ace of Clubs | 4.30 | | A special beer brewed for and by LOSC and the Orpington Liberal Club. I think it’s a hoppy Brown Ale, but hard to categorize. Lots of chocolate malt. |
Park - Cascade Pale Ale | 3.70 | | First class pale, hoppy beer. |
East London (ELB) - Pearly Queen Porter | 4.50 | | A very tasty, smooth Porter. Coffee and dark fruit. |
East London (ELB) - Rascal | 3.80 | | Amber coloured Bitter, heavily flavoured with ginger. |
Stod Fold - Amber | 4.20 | Not Tried
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Hospital Porter | 5.20 | Not Tried
Signature Brew - Roadie - All-Night IPA | 4.30 | Not Tried
One Mile End Brew Co. (formerly Mulligans at the White Hart and then WH Brew Pub) - Tinker's Cuss | 5.20 | Not Tried
19 Aug 2016 (Stephen Harris)
One of this club’s periodic Meet the Brewer nights, this time dedicated to the popular Pig & Porter Brewery of Tunbridge Wells. Their beers go down well, the brewers make entertaining speeches and a good-sized crowd polish off the beer in almost record time.
Pig & Porter - Fatal Flaw American Amber | 4.50 | | A well-hopped Amber Ale in US style. |
Pig & Porter - Dance First | 4.20 | | A nicely-hopped, dry, black Stout. |
Pig & Porter - Ashcan Rantings Citra | 4.20 | | A very fine, Citra-hopped beer. |
Pig & Porter - Dream More | 4.20 | | A single-hopped, pale beer featuring Mosaic hops for a fruity (pineapple?) flavour. |
Pig & Porter / Weird Beard Collaboration - Weird Pig | 5.50 | | A collaboration beer with Weird Beard Brewery. Described as a ‘California Common’ – a style I’m still getting to grips with. Very tasty anyway. |
Pig & Porter - Doublethink DIPA | 8.60 | | From key-keg. A hugely-hopped Double IPA. Powerful and delicious. Mine was the last pint out and a bit cloudy, but none the worse for it. |
Pig & Porter - Big K Irish Pale Ale | 5.20 | | An IPA brewed with British hops First Gold and East Kent Goldings. |
Pig & Porter - Skylarking | 4.00 | | A good pale IPA with fruity hop tastes. |
Pig & Porter - Ashburnham Pale Ale | 3.80 | Not Tried
Pig & Porter - Red Spider Rye | 4.80 | Not Tried

Pre-match drink. Not so crowded tonight. A new feature this season will be a featured London brewery for each matchday. Today it is Hackney Brewery, and their beers seem to be very popular.
East London (ELB) - Cowcatcher | 4.80 | | A nice, hoppy, golden APA. |
Hackney - Little Islands IPA | 4.20 | | A very nice pint. |
RCH - Old Slug Porter | 4.50 | Not Tried
Mighty Oak - Oscar Wilde Mild | 3.70 | Not Tried
Mighty Oak - Captain Bob | 3.80 | Not Tried
Hackney - Best Bitter | 4.40 | Not Tried

Siren Craft - Half Mast QIPA | 2.80 | Not Tried

A couple of quick ones after today’s friendly fixture at Brisbane Road.
Signature Brew - Roadie - All-Night IPA | 4.30 | | Poured from a can. These new technology canned beers do seem consistently good. |
Hackney - Simcoe Summit | 4.40 | | Hazy, golden, sharply hoppy. |
Dark Star - Original | 5.00 | Not Tried
Hackney - Best Bitter | 4.40 | Not Tried
27 Jun 2016 (Stephen Harris)
Evening visit to watch the England vs Iceland match. A good crowd of friends and acquaintances here. Unfortunately, the football match has an all-too-predictable outcome. Good to see the club supporting its nearest brewery and a little gaggle of brewers in after work, supporting their local club.
Signature Brew - Session | 4.00 | | An above-average quality session Bitter. |
Signature Brew - Signature Pale | 4.10 | | Decent Pale Ale with some nice hop flavours. |
16 Jun 2016 (ChrisE)
My first visit here, I stayed from 12:00 until the England v Wales football was shown on the television. A good friendly crowd in enjoying the ale as well as the football match later.
East London (ELB) - Maya | 2.80 | | Amazing flavour for a 2.8% beer. Listed as Mayo on the beer list. |
Glamorgan (formerly Kite) - Welsh Pale | 4.10
Gun - Scaramanga Extra Pale Ale | 3.90 | | Just a taster from a friend's pint. Very good unfined beer. |
Big Hand - Super Tidy IPA | 4.00
Mordue - U.S. Pale Ale | 4.50
Magic Dragon (formerly New Plassey) - Midnight Mild | 4.20 | | Not my ideal mild. |

Here for one of the CAMRA Revitalisation Project meetings. It is an interesting evening but frustrating on several levels. The attendance is not great. Not just in terms of numbers (around 60 people) but also in its demographic. It is almost exclusively male and I find myself to be amongst the younger element. That is not even typical of CAMRA anymore, let alone the wider beer-drinking public, and I think CAMRA needs to find a way of reaching out further with this exercise.
Hackney - Simcoe Summit | 4.40 | | Golden and hoppy. Slightly challenging hop flavours, but becomes very moorish. |
Signature Brew - Signature Pale | 4.10 | | Something about this beer didn’t seem quite right, although I couldn’t put my finger on exactly what. |
08 Apr 2016 (Stephen Harris)
It is a friend’s birthday party and the place is busy (he clearly has a lot more friends than most people have). A couple more cask beers were available in addition to those I have listed.
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 3.40 | | Always reliably good. |
Cloudwater - US Light Mosaic | 3.50 | | A very fine, well-hopped, low-strength, Pale Ale. |
Wiper and True - Milk Stout (Milk Shake) | 5.10 | | Black. Perhaps the sweetest Milk Stout I’ve tasted yet. |
Tuatara - Outrigger | 4.50 | | A bottled beer from New Zealand. A Pale Ale with nice Australian hop tastes. But too carbonated for comfort I thought. |
13 Feb 2016 (Stephen Harris)
Post-match drink with everyone reeling from today’s 0-4 home defeat. I only remember a few of the beers that were available.
Magic Rock - Ringmaster | 3.90 | | Another delicious, pale, hoppy beer. |
Signature Brew - Roadie - All-Night IPA | 4.30 | | Poured from a can. Everyone was saying how good the canned version of this beer is, and they are not wrong. Very tasty indeed. |
Mighty Oak - Love Struck | 4.80 | | Typical pale hoppiness from Mighty Oak. |
Goacher's - Crown Imperial Stout | 4.50 | Not Tried
Mighty Oak - Oscar Wilde Mild | 3.70 | Not Tried
