08 Apr 2016 (Stephen Harris)
It is a friend’s birthday party and the place is busy (he clearly has a lot more friends than most people have). A couple more cask beers were available in addition to those I have listed.
| Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 3.40 | | Always reliably good. |
| Cloudwater - US Light Mosaic | 3.50 | | A very fine, well-hopped, low-strength, Pale Ale. |
| Wiper and True - Milk Stout (Milk Shake) | 5.10 | | Black. Perhaps the sweetest Milk Stout I’ve tasted yet. |
| Tuatara - Outrigger | 4.50 | | A bottled beer from New Zealand. A Pale Ale with nice Australian hop tastes. But too carbonated for comfort I thought. |
13 Feb 2016 (Stephen Harris)
Post-match drink with everyone reeling from today’s 0-4 home defeat. I only remember a few of the beers that were available.
| Magic Rock - Ringmaster | 3.90 | | Another delicious, pale, hoppy beer. |
| Signature Brew - Roadie - All-Night IPA | 4.30 | | Poured from a can. Everyone was saying how good the canned version of this beer is, and they are not wrong. Very tasty indeed. |
| Mighty Oak - Love Struck | 4.80 | | Typical pale hoppiness from Mighty Oak. |
| Goacher's - Crown Imperial Stout | 4.50 | Not Tried | |
| Mighty Oak - Oscar Wilde Mild | 3.70 | Not Tried | |
12 Feb 2016 (Stephen Harris)
A busy Friday evening with a presentation of Signature Brewery beers and a Q&A session with the Signature team.
| Signature Brew - Black Vinyl Stout | 4.20 | | Dry, black, chocolaty Stout. |
| Signature Brew - Roadie - All-Night IPA | 4.30 | | In cask for the first time here tonight. A crisp and light Pale Ale, well-hopped with Cascade and Columbus. |
| Signature Brew - Dry-hopped Studio Lager | 5.20 | | A cask-conditioned and dry-hopped version of the brewery’s Vienna Lager. A one-off beer for tonight’s event. I enjoyed this. Not as sweet as the keg Vienna Lager. |
| Signature Brew - Signature Pale | 4.10 | | Described as the brewery’s ‘flagship beer’. Golden in colour, with US hop tastes from Perle, Magnum and Cascade. |
| Mighty Oak - Oscar Wilde Mild | 3.70 | Not Tried | |
| Signature Brew - Red Wedge | 4.70 | Not Tried | |
| Signature Brew - Session | 4.00 | Not Tried | |
| Signature Brew - Studio Lager | 5.20 | Not Tried | I think this is the Vienna Lager renamed. |
26 Jan 2016 (Stephen Harris)
Pre-match drinks with the usual crowd of friends.
| Dark Star - Hophead Dry | 3.80 | | Superb. Just the kind of beer I like, and selling very fast here. |
| Red Star - Formby Blonde | 3.90 | | A typical Blonde-style beer. Good, although tasted rather sweet coming straight after the Dark Star beer. |
| North Blyth - Gold | 3.90 | | Malty, golden beer. Nothing special. |
| Mighty Oak - Oscar Wilde Mild | 3.70 | Not Tried | |
| Five Points - Railway Porter | 4.80 | Not Tried | |
| Big Penny (formerly Truman's) as of late 2022 contract brewed - Zephyr | 4.40 | Not Tried | |
| Red Star - Formby Malt | 4.00 | Not Tried | |
16 Jan 2016 (Stephen Harris)
Post-match drink after a disastrous defeat on the pitch.
| Five Points - Five Points Pale | 4.40 | | One of the market leaders in this style in my view. |
| Big Penny (formerly Truman's) as of late 2022 contract brewed - Zephyr | 4.40 | | Truman’s hoppiest, pale beer – my favourite of their regulars. |
| Hackney - Kentucky Common | 4.50 | | A very decent, dark, Best Bitter. |
| Hackney - New Zealand Pale Ale | 4.50 | Not Tried | |
| Big Penny (formerly Truman's) as of late 2022 contract brewed - Runner | 4.00 | Not Tried | |
| Big Penny (formerly Truman's) as of late 2022 contract brewed - Swift | 3.90 | Not Tried | |
| Big Penny (formerly Truman's) as of late 2022 contract brewed - Attaboy | 4.60 | Not Tried | |
| Volden - Porter | 5.20 | Not Tried | |
26 Dec 2015 (Stephen Harris)
Post-match visit. Although there has been a big crowd at today’s game, rail travel difficulties mean it is relatively quiet in here after the match, with reduced beer offering, as many customers and most of the volunteer staff have to rely on cars to get home tonight.
| Big Penny (formerly Truman's) as of late 2022 contract brewed - Project X Star Anise | 4.80 | | A thick, full-bodied, roasty Stout. |
| Mighty Oak - Oscar Wilde Mild | 3.70 | Not Tried | |
| Slater's - Smoked Porter | 4.80 | Not Tried | |
23 Dec 2015 (Stephen Harris)
I’m pleased to be able to attend the annual Mighty Oak night at the O’s Club this year. It’s a very popular event and the crowds are certainly out tonight. Several of the beers are on their second cask by the time I leave a little after 9pm.
| Mighty Oak - Maldon Gold | 3.80 | | Familiar, excellent, pale beer. |
| Mighty Oak - Silver Surfer | 4.10 | | Interesting, pale, Wheat Beer, well-hopped with Bobek and Marynka. |
| Mighty Oak - Elementary Penguin | 3.50 | | A traditional Bitter, brewed using Bramling Cross hops for a nice blackcurrant taste. |
| Mighty Oak - Elfin Marvellous | 4.50 | | A well-hopped, golden beer, with Amarillo and Simcoe hops. |
| Mighty Oak - Sergeant Pepper | 4.20 | | A full-bodied Bitter. |
| Mighty Oak - Bingle Jells | 5.20 | Not Tried | |
| Mighty Oak - Oscar Wilde Mild | 3.70 | Not Tried | |
| Mighty Oak - Yellow Snow | 3.80 | Not Tried | |
| Mighty Oak - Trusty Husky | 4.20 | Not Tried | |
21 Nov 2015 (Stephen Harris)
Post-match drink with friends. Not quite as crowded tonight as it can get in here on match-days. My list of beers just scratches the surface of what had been available over the day.
| Mighty Oak - Oscar Wilde Mild | 3.70 | | I don’t drink much Mild, but I regard this beer as being the benchmark for the style. |
| Just a Minute - Bitter Daze | 4.00 | | A standard, dark Bitter. |
| Magic Dragon (formerly New Plassey) - Wagtail Ale | 4.00 | | Golden. A bit limp and a bit sweet. |
| Rudgate - Viking | 3.80 | Not Tried | |
13 Nov 2015 (Stephen Harris)
A promotion night for Round Tower Brewery of Chelmsford. As ever with these events, it is very popular and a big crowd gathers, pretty much draining all ten firkins. By the time I leave, news of the ghastly events in Paris is beginning to filter through.
| Round Tower - Screens | 6.10 | | A strong and black Stout. Warming alcohol. Bit of roast. Sharp finish. |
| Round Tower - Slipstream (Sherry Cask Oak-aged Edition) | 5.40 | | Superb Black IPA. The oak-aging gives a really good, smooth, mellow and more-rounded flavour to this beer, taking off all the sharp edges. |
| Round Tower - Slipstream | 5.70 | | Strength given as 5.4%. A decent, but not special, Black IPA. |
| Round Tower - BB Mild | 3.80 | | A very chocolaty dark mild. |
| Round Tower - Fenton | 4.50 | | Golden-coloured. Dominated by a hop bitterness in the finish. |
| Round Tower - Wireless Gold | 4.00 | | Golden-coloured. A bit too sweet and sticky for me. |
| Round Tower - Stout | 4.10 | Not Tried | |
| Round Tower - Liminal | 4.50 | Not Tried | |
| Round Tower - Knight | 4.50 | Not Tried | |
| Round Tower - Strutt | 5.10 | Not Tried | |
19 Sep 2015 (Stephen Harris)

| Mighty Oak - Oscar Wilde Mild | 3.70 | Not Tried | |
