17 Mar 2015 (Stephen Harris)
I only had time to visit before tonight’s match, not after, at which time the club was heavily crowded. Usual excellent beer range.

03 Mar 2015 (Stephen Harris)
In here both before and after tonight’s match. The celebrity-spotter within me was pleased to note Baldrick actor Tony Robinson in for a drink before the game, plus O’s skipper for the evening Romain Vincelot after the game. There were some additional beers to those I have listed.
Wild Card - Ace of Spades | 4.70 | | This was on great form. A lovely Porter. |
Offbeat - Outlandish Pale | 3.90 | | Pretty good Pale Ale. |
Wild Card - Jack of Clubs | 4.50 | | Brought for me by a friend in error instead of the Ace of Spades. But still very nice. |
Mighty Oak - Oscar Wilde Mild | 3.70 | Not Tried

Wild Card - Pale Ale | 3.80 | Not Tried
27 Feb 2015 (Stephen Harris)
The annual Dark Star Brewery evening has come early this year (it usually takes place on Maundy Thursday). The Club is crowded for the event and the Dark Star beers are drunk up in double quick time, being replaced by beers from other breweries – this causes some consternation amongst regulars that ‘strangers’ are drinking their way into next week’s beers.
Dark Star - American Pale Ale (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 4.70 | | On very fine form. |
Mighty Oak - Oscar Wilde Mild | 3.70 | | Always a top fall-back here as other beers ran out. |
Dark Star - American Red | 5.80 | | Whilst I am no fan of Red Ales, I do like an American Red Ale; and this was great. |
Stancill - Blonde | 3.90 | | A good Blond beer. |
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Dark Star - Espresso Stout | 4.20 | Not Tried | Ran out very quickly. All gone before I even arrived. |
Dark Star - Festival | 5.00 | Not Tried
Dark Star - Original | 5.00 | Not Tried
Downton - Quadhop | 3.90 | Not Tried
Dark Star - Partridge Best Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried
Dark Star - Revelation | 5.70 | Not Tried
Dark Star - Darkness | 3.50 | Not Tried | Ran out very quickly. |
21 Feb 2015 (Stephen Harris)
I’ve not recorded all my recent visits here as watching the O’s has been a rather miserable experience of late. Much more cheerful today though after a big win. I was in the club both before and after the match, although have not managed to record all the beer names.
Slater's - Black IPA | 5.00 | | Another really lovely Black IPA. |
Mighty Oak - Mr Moonlight | 4.00 | | A very nice, crisp, pale gold beer. |
Kelham Island (probably brewed by Thornbridge now) - Pride of Sheffield | 4.00 | | Went down very nicely. |
Brighton Bier - South Coast IPA | 5.00 | | Tasted very strong in alcohol. |
First Chop Brewing Arm - FCB | 3.60 | | Tasty golden beer with US hop flavours. |
Adnams - Old Ale | 4.10 | Not Tried | Two casks of this were emptied in quick time. |
Mighty Oak - Oscar Wilde Mild | 3.70 | Not Tried
Mighty Oak - Kings (was 3.9% before 2013) | 4.20 | Not Tried
Yates (Cumbria) - Golden Ale | 3.90 | Not Tried
24 Nov 2014 (Stephen Harris)
The bar here had been drunk dry on Saturday evening following a home win for the O’s (at last!). That didn’t leave much beer for tonight’s well-attended AGM of the Leyton Orient Fans Trust.
Mighty Oak - Oscar Wilde Mild | 3.70 | | It’s easy to take this beer for granted, as it is always on the bar here, and forget that it is actually one of the very best Dark Milds around. |
Great Orme - Orme | 4.20 | | Chestnut-coloured, heavy malt. Not really my thing. |
11 Nov 2014 (Stephen Harris)
A mere seven cask beers to choose from tonight, ahead of a low-key, midweek match.
Elephant School (sub-brand of Brentwood) - Wheat Odyssey | 7.00 | | Strong, cloudy, Belgian-style Witbier additionally hopped with loads of Citra. |
Brentwood - IPA | 3.70 | | Blander than bland. |
Clarkshaws - Gorgon's Alive! | 4.00 | | Unfiltered beer that tonight seems just the wrong side of rough and yeasty, although perfectly drinkable. |
Okell's - Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
Cottage - Golden Arrow | 4.50 | Not Tried
Brentwood - Marvellous Maple Mild | 3.70 | Not Tried
Mighty Oak - Kings (was 3.9% before 2013) | 4.20 | Not Tried
01 Nov 2014 (Stephen Harris)
Visits both before and after the match with Coventry City. A mix of festival beers (the last couple of which came down to 50p a pint to clear at last knockings) and new stuff from the cellar (which remained at the usual £3 a pint). I just list those I drank.
Late Knights - Hairy Dog Black IPA | 6.00
Loch Lomond - Southern Summit | 4.00 | | Tasty Pale Ale. |
Arbor Ales - NZ Amber Ale | 5.20 | | Typically excellent Arbor beer. |
Colchester - Romani Ite Domun | 4.30
Arkell's - Centennial | 3.60 | | A bit of a departure for Arkell’s for this pale, US-hopped beer. |
Blackhill - Three Quarters | 4.40
31 Oct 2014 (Stephen Harris)
Enjoyable evening visit to the second day of a busy and successful Beer Festival. The beers for this festival had all been recommended by club members.
Brewster's - Aromatic Porter | 4.50 | | I thought this was lovely. Blurring the boundaries between Porter and Black IPA categories. |
Revolutions - Demo #8 (Codename Nigel) | 6.00 | | Strong, pale and US-hoppy. |
Tillingbourne - Hop Troll IPA | 4.80 | | Another hop monster. |
Brighton Bier - Fat Boy Stout | 5.80 | | Really good, strong stout – nearly five stars. |
Hackney - Pumpkin APA | 4.50 | | Described in the programme as having ‘sweetness’, I thought it was actually rather dry. And spicy. |
Ilkley - The Green Rose | 5.60 | | A real oddity. This is a strong ESB style beer that has been made using green hops. |
Stancill - Porter | 4.40 | | |
Taylor's Attleborough - Second Coming | 3.90 | | Up against so many good beers, this standard brown bitter using EKG hops tasted very ordinary. |
Harviestoun - Schiehallion | 4.80 | Not Tried
Mighty Oak - Oscar Wilde Mild | 3.70 | Not Tried
Surrey Hills - Ranmore Ale | 3.80 | Not Tried
Isle of Purbeck - Purbeck IPA | 4.80 | Not Tried

Deverell's - Au-79 | 4.00 | Not Tried
Tonbridge - Union Pale | 4.70 | Not Tried

Arkell's - Centennial | 3.60 | Not Tried
Blackhill - Three Quarters | 4.40 | Not Tried
Cottage - Ghost Train | 5.20 | Not Tried
25 Sep 2014 (Stephen Harris)
A special opening for a Meet The Brewer night with Brighton Bier, and also for the presentation of the latest round of CAMRA Club of the Year awards. Well-supported by members.
Brighton Bier - Dealer’s Choice #1 (abv may vary) | 5.50 | | A very luscious Black IPA featuring Simcoe and Mosaic hops. |
Brighton Bier - Dealer’s Choice #2 | 5.50 | | A very bitter, golden IPA, with Columbus and HBC366 hops. |
Brighton Bier - Coffee Racer | 6.00 | | An experimental beer brewed on Brighton Bier’s pilot brewery. A rich stout with plenty of coffee without being over the top. |
Brighton Bier - (Under the) Table Bier | 7.00 | | A golden, hazy, warming and ever so slightly sweet, Belgian-style strong Pale Ale. |
Brighton Bier - Fall Guy | 4.50 | | A reddish bitter. Brewed at Greene King’s brewery, and you can tell. Distinctive flavour from the GK yeast. |
Brighton Bier - West Pier | 4.00 | Not Tried
Brighton Bier - South Coast IPA | 5.00 | Not Tried
Brighton Bier - Underdog | 4.20 | Not Tried
Brighton Bier - Thirty Three Pale Ale | 3.30 | Not Tried
23 Sep 2014 (Stephen Harris)
I’m unusually early here tonight and am able to bag our “lucky table” before any of my friends arrive. There is a low crowd expectation for tonight’s League Cup match and it never becomes over-busy in here before the game.
Mighty Oak - Maldon Gold | 3.80 | | Ever tasty, ever popular. |
Hackney - American Pale Ale | 4.50 | | Full-bodied US Pale. |
Mighty Oak - Trail Ale | 4.30 | | Oddly, I find this rather bland and flat, whilst my friends are raving about it. I think I might have had the first one out or something. |
Black Country - BFG Bradley's Finest Golden | 4.20 | Not Tried
Mighty Oak - Oscar Wilde Mild | 3.70 | Not Tried
Mighty Oak - Captain Bob | 3.80 | Not Tried
Harbour - IPA | 5.00 | Not Tried
Colchester - Pontisbright | 4.20 | Not Tried
