Visits Details

18 Aug 2015 (Stephen Harris)
Brief visits both before and after tonight’s satisfying victory on the pitch. Not all beers recorded.
BeerABVScoreNotes
East London (ELB) - Nightwatchman4.50ExcellentI always enjoy this dark, rich, chocolaty beer, somewhere between a Bitter and a Porter.
Big Penny (formerly Truman's) as of late 2022 contract brewed - Project X IPA5.10ExcellentSmall batch experimental beer. Well worth persevering with this one I’d say.

31 May 2015 (Stephen Harris)
In here before a charity football match at Brisbane Road. An unexpectedly large crowd attends the game (3,000) and the bar is drunk dry by 2:30, and does not re-open after the game.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Mighty Oak - Captain Bob3.80ExcellentGood Citra hop flavours.
Five Points - Five Points Pale4.40ExcellentPoured from a bottle and very fine, if a little too carbonated for my tastes.
Mighty Oak - Maldon Gold3.80GoodSomehow not quite as tasty as usual.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Old Street Pale5.00Not Tried
17 Mar 2015 (Stephen Harris)
I only had time to visit before tonight’s match, not after, at which time the club was heavily crowded. Usual excellent beer range.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hellhound - Dirty Blond3.90GoodEasy drinking, pale beer.

In here both before and after tonight’s match. The celebrity-spotter within me was pleased to note Baldrick actor Tony Robinson in for a drink before the game, plus O’s skipper for the evening Romain Vincelot after the game. There were some additional beers to those I have listed.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wild Card - Ace of Spades4.70ExcellentThis was on great form. A lovely Porter.
Offbeat - Outlandish Pale3.90GoodPretty good Pale Ale.
Wild Card - Jack of Clubs4.50GoodBrought for me by a friend in error instead of the Ace of Spades. But still very nice.

The annual Dark Star Brewery evening has come early this year (it usually takes place on Maundy Thursday). The Club is crowded for the event and the Dark Star beers are drunk up in double quick time, being replaced by beers from other breweries – this causes some consternation amongst regulars that ‘strangers’ are drinking their way into next week’s beers.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Dark Star - American Pale Ale (some has also been brewed by Fuller's)4.70ExcellentOn very fine form.
Mighty Oak - Oscar Wilde Mild3.70ExcellentAlways a top fall-back here as other beers ran out.
Dark Star - American Red5.80ExcellentWhilst I am no fan of Red Ales, I do like an American Red Ale; and this was great.
Stancill - Blonde3.90GoodA good Blond beer.
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's)3.40Not Tried
Dark Star - Espresso Stout4.20Not TriedRan out very quickly. All gone before I even arrived.

I’ve not recorded all my recent visits here as watching the O’s has been a rather miserable experience of late. Much more cheerful today though after a big win. I was in the club both before and after the match, although have not managed to record all the beer names.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Slater's - Black IPA5.00ExcellentAnother really lovely Black IPA.
Mighty Oak - Mr Moonlight4.00ExcellentA very nice, crisp, pale gold beer.
Kelham Island (probably brewed by Thornbridge now) - Pride of Sheffield4.00GoodWent down very nicely.
Brighton Bier - South Coast IPA5.00GoodTasted very strong in alcohol.
First Chop Brewing Arm - FCB3.60GoodTasty golden beer with US hop flavours.

24 Nov 2014 (Stephen Harris)
The bar here had been drunk dry on Saturday evening following a home win for the O’s (at last!). That didn’t leave much beer for tonight’s well-attended AGM of the Leyton Orient Fans Trust.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Mighty Oak - Oscar Wilde Mild3.70ExcellentIt’s easy to take this beer for granted, as it is always on the bar here, and forget that it is actually one of the very best Dark Milds around.
Great Orme - Orme4.20AcceptableChestnut-coloured, heavy malt. Not really my thing.
11 Nov 2014 (Stephen Harris)
A mere seven cask beers to choose from tonight, ahead of a low-key, midweek match.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Elephant School (sub-brand of Brentwood) - Wheat Odyssey7.00ExcellentStrong, cloudy, Belgian-style Witbier additionally hopped with loads of Citra.
Brentwood - IPA3.70AcceptableBlander than bland.
Clarkshaws - Gorgon's Alive!4.00AcceptableUnfiltered beer that tonight seems just the wrong side of rough and yeasty, although perfectly drinkable.
Okell's - Bitter3.70Not Tried

Visits both before and after the match with Coventry City. A mix of festival beers (the last couple of which came down to 50p a pint to clear at last knockings) and new stuff from the cellar (which remained at the usual £3 a pint). I just list those I drank.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Late Knights - Hairy Dog Black IPA6.00Excellent
Loch Lomond - Southern Summit4.00ExcellentTasty Pale Ale.
Arbor Ales - NZ Amber Ale5.20ExcellentTypically excellent Arbor beer.
Colchester - Romani Ite Domun4.30Good
Arkell's - Centennial3.60GoodA bit of a departure for Arkell’s for this pale, US-hopped beer.
Blackhill - Three Quarters4.40Good
31 Oct 2014 (Stephen Harris)
Enjoyable evening visit to the second day of a busy and successful Beer Festival. The beers for this festival had all been recommended by club members.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brewster's - Aromatic Porter4.50ExceptionalI thought this was lovely. Blurring the boundaries between Porter and Black IPA categories.
Revolutions - Demo #8 (Codename Nigel)6.00ExcellentStrong, pale and US-hoppy.
Tillingbourne - Hop Troll IPA4.80ExcellentAnother hop monster.
Brighton Bier - Fat Boy Stout5.80ExcellentReally good, strong stout – nearly five stars.
Hackney - Pumpkin APA4.50ExcellentDescribed in the programme as having ‘sweetness’, I thought it was actually rather dry. And spicy.
Ilkley - The Green Rose5.60ExcellentA real oddity. This is a strong ESB style beer that has been made using green hops.
Stancill - Porter4.40Good
Taylor's Attleborough - Second Coming3.90AcceptableUp against so many good beers, this standard brown bitter using EKG hops tasted very ordinary.
