I had been asked to give some advice to a group of drinkers from Peterborough Camra who were planning a pub crawl of Dover and Canterbury. I decided to join them for the Dover part of thei trip and this was the first stop of the day after a rail replacement bus trip on a stuffy bus covered in Contra Vision advertising which spoiled any chance of enjoying the sea views. A great welcome from Debbie and a most enjoyable visit.

Second stop on a little lunchtime crawl. Oops, I accidentally find myself breaking the no-mobile ‘phones rule a couple of time, not that any of the regulars sprawled over the comfy chairs seem to mind.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Four Candles - Northern Ale4.30Excellent‘Britain’s smallest brewpub’ apparently. A pretty competent, Blonde-style beer though.
Pig & Porter - Elders and Betters3.50GoodVery dry, floral and twiggy. Elderflower.

Several mid-evening hours of cross table conversation, as it should be in a Micropub.

First stop on the way to the Roger Marples Beer Festival at the Royal Cinque Ports Yacht Club. I had a good chat with Debbie who told me that they had sponsored a cask of Cinque Porter (because of the name) and that they would be heading down there later to sample some. Five ales on tap but I did not make a note of them. Goachers arrived with five firkins of ale, one of each of their current beers so Goachers fans may find something to their taste next week.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Romney Marsh - Amber Ale4.20ExcellentOn top form, I could not resist having a second pint.

The pub is found in Dover, Kent, CT17 9AQ.

Street corner Micropub on Worthington Street, located in what was previously Maxwell's Amusements Arcade, which opened on 19th December 2014, a day after full planning permission was granted by Dover District Council - now that is some logistical achievement. Comfortably furnished and carpeted with real ales and ciders served on gravity dispense on 3 level stillage from a temperature controlled cellar room which has a viewing window in the bar. Mix of high tables / stools, settees / low tables plus wall shelves for vertical drinking. Lined glasses in use. 2017 and 2018 local CAMRA branch Pub of the Year. CAMRA East Kent Pub of the Year 2017 and 2018. CAMRA Kent Pub of the Year 2018. CLOSED Sundays. Closed after end of Covid lockdown with future uncertain.

We have visited this pub 77 times, seen 207 different beers and tried 104 of them.
