I had been asked to give some advice to a group of drinkers from Peterborough Camra who were planning a pub crawl of Dover and Canterbury. I decided to join them for the Dover part of thei trip and this was the first stop of the day after a rail replacement bus trip on a stuffy bus covered in Contra Vision advertising which spoiled any chance of enjoying the sea views. A great welcome from Debbie and a most enjoyable visit.
Rockin Robin - Mildly Rockin | 3.70 | | Superb, this was enjoyed by many in our group. |
North Cotswold - Shagweaver | 4.50 | Not Tried
Pig & Porter - Elders and Betters | 3.50 | Not Tried
Tonbridge - Old Chestnut | 4.40 | Not Tried
Four Candles - Northern Ale | 4.30 | Not Tried
16 Jul 2016 (Stephen Harris)
Second stop on a little lunchtime crawl. Oops, I accidentally find myself breaking the no-mobile ‘phones rule a couple of time, not that any of the regulars sprawled over the comfy chairs seem to mind.
Four Candles - Northern Ale | 4.30 | | ‘Britain’s smallest brewpub’ apparently. A pretty competent, Blonde-style beer though. |
Pig & Porter - Elders and Betters | 3.50 | | Very dry, floral and twiggy. Elderflower. |
North Cotswold - Shagweaver | 4.50 | Not Tried
Rockin Robin - Mildly Rockin | 3.70 | Not Tried
Tonbridge - Old Chestnut | 4.40 | Not Tried
10 May 2016 (Philip Pirrip)
Several mid-evening hours of cross table conversation, as it should be in a Micropub.
Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - New Zealand Red | 4.40 | | Best beer of the evening. Right temperature, condition and hop balance |
Wantsum - Hengist | 5.00 | | |
Musket - Trigger | 3.60 | | |
Mad Cat - Mild Disobedience | 4.00 | Not Tried
Rockin Robin - Robin Redbest | 4.00 | Not Tried

First stop on the way to the Roger Marples Beer Festival at the Royal Cinque Ports Yacht Club. I had a good chat with Debbie who told me that they had sponsored a cask of Cinque Porter (because of the name) and that they would be heading down there later to sample some. Five ales on tap but I did not make a note of them.
Goachers arrived with five firkins of ale, one of each of their current beers so Goachers fans may find something to their taste next week.
Romney Marsh - Amber Ale | 4.20 | | On top form, I could not resist having a second pint. |
28 Jan 2016 (ChrisE)
Final pub on a tour of Deal and Dover before catching a rail replacement bus. A good welcome as usual and a fair number of familiar faces amongst the customers.

My final stop before heading up the hill to the railway station. A deservedly popular pub.
Goacher's - Crown Imperial Stout | 4.50
Rudgate - Jorvik Blonde | 3.80 | | The last one out of the cask, acceptable but taken back by the landlady because it appeared to be lacking condition and she was not happy with it. Exchanged for Goacher's Imperial Stout. |
Skinner's - Christmas Fairy | 3.90 | Not Tried
Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - The Reeve's Ale | 4.10 | Not Tried
