Very much a micro pub, but with a gothic feel to it. Deep room with tap room visible behind the bar. Stags head on the wall, dark green wallpaper and eclectic paraphernalia on the walls. I liked it.

Got as far as opening the door and was immediately asked to leave, no children! Didn't even get to see their beer list so couldn't list any here.

13:00 - 14:30 Steady stream of customers during our visit. Plenty of conversation with strangers as it should be in a micro-pub. Good Landlord obviously passionate about his beer. My only criticism is I found it too dark and the decor reminded me of a high street amusement arcade.

Kent - Altered States4.70ExceptionalThis was superb. I normally ring the changes given a choice of beer but I had three of this hence my top score.
Kent - Brewers Reserve5.00GoodJust a sip from my chum's glass. Not too bad at all.
Mad Cat - Autumn Sun4.30AcceptableA green hop ale that fell short of expectations.

Evening. Despite being open for less than a fortnight seems very well settled in. Not so sure that the layout will encourage cross tables conversation except when the pub is very quiet. Rather more expensive than the Thanet Micropubs.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wantsum - Black Pig4.80Excellent
Dartford Wobbler (re-named from Millis) - Gravesend Guzzler3.70GoodFresh on and seemed a tad too fresh
Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - Green Hop Ale4.30AcceptableSeemed to lack the real ooooomph of the green hop style
Hopdaemon - Green Daemon5.00PoorFlat, no condition, unappetising
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's)3.40Not Tried
Pig & Porter - Red Spider Rye (superseded by 4.8% version)5.50Not TriedJust sold out. I believe this is still a cuckoo brewery

This much heralded new micropub launched to great excitement on Sunday. On our visit on Thursday Mike was pretty low on beers as a result with Broadside in place and Gadds No 5 almost ready to go. So we started with the Adnams and moved on later to the Gadds. An excellent first visit with a real eclectic mix of visitors, most for the first time, and much fine conversation. If you like the Butcher's Arms at Herne you'll feel very much at home here too. Good luck Mike.

The pub is found in Whitstable, Kent, CT5 1BB.

Micropub in central Whitstable in the High Street. Formerly a delicatessen called Olivias. Various problems dogged the opening date but it finally opened for business on Sunday 22nd September 2013. A very narrow building with black tiled floor and a traditional bar counter at the back with 5 unused handpumps for decoration only although are however adorned with the current pumpclips, behind which is a viewing panel into the same level cellar where the real ales and ciders are dispensed on gravity stillage. The bar walls are part tiled, part upholstered with a number of pictures hung. High level bench seats are along the full length of both side walls and are accompanied by high tables. The interior has a dark gothic feel. From the bar up one step to pass the entrance to the cellar on the way to the toilet. Currently closed long term due to Covid-19 pandemic. Seems like a change of use has taken place from a pub and without any planning permission. Currently operating as a picture gallery.

We have visited this pub 75 times, seen 177 different beers and tried 68 of them.
