Final stop on the Stour Valley Walk. Very friendly pub, but quiet for a Saturday evening

Martin and I had time for one before the train. Quite quiet really, but felt like old times sat at the same table as the last 20 years. A couple more beers on, but I can't remember what they were
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | | Surprisingly really good. |
05 Apr 2009 (Andrew)
Ah the Tickled Trout. Man was it busy. A French cycling group poured around the corner as we arrived and filled up what was left of the garden. We had a table booked so we had nothing to worry about. The inside of the trout is much as it's always been. Put Fremlins back on the bar and it could have been 1989 all over again.
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | | This was really very good. Fresh and fruity with some sweetness and nuttiness and that good old Harvey's yeast and bitter finish. |
Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Greene King - Morland Old Speckled Hen | 4.50 | Not Tried
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride | 4.10 | Not Tried
Belhaven - Caledonian Deuchars IPA | 3.80 | Not Tried

After the Xmas fiasco, I was determined not to come here again, but I had to didn't I? Too much history.
Archers - Fives & Threes | 5.30 | | OK ESB, some acidity on finish, reasonable fullness in mouth. Moderate condition. Malts have some dark fruit. I had a cold, so it was difficult to pick anything more out. |
Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Greene King - Morland Old Speckled Hen | 4.50 | Not Tried
Wadworth - 6X | 4.10 | Not Tried

Just such a disappointment. This was our spiritual home, but the beer quality was poor (don't do 5 beers, do 2 or 3, but do them well) and there just wasn't enough tinsel/decorations. I want to be blown away, like it used to be.
Hopdaemon - Skrimshander IPA | 4.50 | | Couldn't finish this and nor could Andrew or Martin. Plus Martin had to take his Flowers Original back as it was off. |

Ah the Trout; my spiritual home of drinking. Fremlins at the Trout in days of yore was great. ...but that was then and this is now. Good beer line-up tonight - it's always great to see Skrimshander on. The Christmas decorations were not as 'total' as last year (I could see the ceiling) and the police came in, wandered around, and then left (not quite sure why but their reflective jackets fitted in nicely with the tinsel).
Hopdaemon - Skrimshander IPA | 4.50 | | Funny one really. Tasted a bit orangy with hay. Ian thought it was off but I don't think that was it. |
Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Timothy Taylor - Landlord | 4.30 | Not Tried
Badger (Hall & Woodhouse) - Flowers Original (subsequently contract brewed at Brains) | 4.40 | Not Tried
Archers - Awesome Pair | 5.20 | Not Tried

New owners, but still the same old Trout. Lovely beer garden. Still a good range of real ales.
Timothy Taylor - Landlord | 4.30 | | Very drinkable. In fact in went down without me noticing too much. |

Here with Ian on a Wye crawl. Sat in the garden in the early evening mainly because the inside was quite busy. The Trout doesn't change much.
Timothy Taylor - Landlord | 4.30 | | Excellent malt combined with good earthy hops made this a great pint. |
Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Belhaven - Caledonian Deuchars IPA | 3.80 | Not Tried

Looking forward to a refreshing pint after a walk on the Wye Downs Garden fairly busy when we arrived in the late afternoon
Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%) | 3.40 | | Nice session beer with slight malty taste much better than in some other pubs in the Ashford Area had a couple didn't try any of the other beers |
Belhaven - Caledonian Deuchars IPA | 3.80 | | Very Cloudy Tasted Watery returned and changed it |
Greene King - Morland Old Speckled Hen | 4.50 | Not Tried
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Young's London Special (was Special) | 4.50 | Not Tried

It's the summer, it's hot, it must be time for the Tickled Trout. Certainly this was my view 17 years ago. Still the same old Trout with it's great river side garden. However, given the fact I wasn't convinced the beer would actually taste good I had lager, which was awful. Don't know how lager can actually be off but it was.
Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Adnams - Explorer | 4.30 | Not Tried
