Visited about 8:30pm and it wasn't very busy, which was a good thing as there seemed to be only 1 person behind the bar. 2 of the 4 pumps clips were turned round so only 2 beers on. The real fire was nice but I can't say the general experience was very atmospheric.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Timothy Taylor - Landlord4.30AcceptableNot a great pint; a bit cold and a bit too frothed up. However, you could tell they'd once been a good pint there.

Wednesday evening with a good number of customers. The trains were disrupted so I arrived one hour later than planned and only had time for a couple of pints.

Martin and I had time for one before the train. Quite quiet really, but felt like old times sat at the same table as the last 20 years. A couple more beers on, but I can't remember what they were
BeerABVScoreNotes
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter4.00ExcellentSurprisingly really good.

Ah the Tickled Trout. Man was it busy. A French cycling group poured around the corner as we arrived and filled up what was left of the garden. We had a table booked so we had nothing to worry about. The inside of the trout is much as it's always been. Put Fremlins back on the bar and it could have been 1989 all over again.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter4.00ExcellentThis was really very good. Fresh and fruity with some sweetness and nuttiness and that good old Harvey's yeast and bitter finish.

After the Xmas fiasco, I was determined not to come here again, but I had to didn't I? Too much history.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Archers - Fives & Threes5.30AcceptableOK ESB, some acidity on finish, reasonable fullness in mouth. Moderate condition. Malts have some dark fruit. I had a cold, so it was difficult to pick anything more out.

Just such a disappointment. This was our spiritual home, but the beer quality was poor (don't do 5 beers, do 2 or 3, but do them well) and there just wasn't enough tinsel/decorations. I want to be blown away, like it used to be.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopdaemon - Skrimshander IPA4.50PoorCouldn't finish this and nor could Andrew or Martin. Plus Martin had to take his Flowers Original back as it was off.

Ah the Trout; my spiritual home of drinking. Fremlins at the Trout in days of yore was great. ...but that was then and this is now. Good beer line-up tonight - it's always great to see Skrimshander on. The Christmas decorations were not as 'total' as last year (I could see the ceiling) and the police came in, wandered around, and then left (not quite sure why but their reflective jackets fitted in nicely with the tinsel).
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopdaemon - Skrimshander IPA4.50AcceptableFunny one really. Tasted a bit orangy with hay. Ian thought it was off but I don't think that was it.

New owners, but still the same old Trout. Lovely beer garden. Still a good range of real ales.

Here with Ian on a Wye crawl. Sat in the garden in the early evening mainly because the inside was quite busy. The Trout doesn't change much.
