Beer quality seems to an issue here. Again, we were disappointed. The two Ossett beers tasted the same and all three had strong hints of cardboard. Didn't note the names of the others two miscreants.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ossett - Jester4.00PoorA golden ale. Now what's the opposite of fresh?
09 Aug 2014 (McGargle)
Much better selection including a Wainstones which I don't remember. Rat White Rat had just finished, drat it!
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ossett - Silver King4.30ExcellentJUst the job on a sunny summer's evening. Good malt body and plenty of quenching hops.

Back to (ab)normal. Friday evening and only one beer on - typically one that I had no interest in trying.

Good to see a better choice of ales. Tasters encouraged.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Jaipur5.90AcceptableThin, sweet, slightly floral. Disappointing.
S43 (formerly Sonnet 43) - American Pale Ale5.40AcceptableDrank weaker than its abv. Lightly hopped and inoffensive malts.

Sad to report that The Star continues to disappoint. Today there was only one ale on which was off (if you seen what I mean).
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wainstones - Blonde4.00PoorApparently a cask lager this was rather thin and on the turn. Pleased I asked for a taster.

Mid-evening and just starting to liven up. Disappointed with the beer quality in what is usually a reliable outlet.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Timothy Taylor - Boltmaker (formerly Best Bitter)4.00AcceptableAn old favourite which seemed off form. Disjointed and muted.
Jarrow - Rivet Catcher4.00AcceptableSee Boltmaker comments.
Wainstones - Iron Stone4.20PoorWas warned by another customer that this was thin and weedy. So it was.

Disappointing to see they only has two ales on.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Captain Cook - Slipway4.20AcceptableMore malt, less hops than I remember.

Apparently they'd been busy at lunch time and hadn't bothered changing the casks so Saturday evening came and no real ales were available.

Again really busy. Bar crowded and standing room only. Good atmosphere though.
BeerABVScoreNotes
North Yorkshire - Crystal Tips4.00GoodRuby bitter with a sour sharpness in the mouth. Thick creamy head. Decent.
Bridgehouse - Tyke4.10GoodLight malty brown bitter. Easy drinkable.

Quiet on Saturday at 6pm. The calm before the storm! A pet hate of mine were Englands Pride and Celtic Golds pumpclips which gave no indication of their brewery.
BeerABVScoreNotes
North Yorkshire - Boro Best4.00AcceptableGolden brown beer. Malt was only distinguishing feature. Bit sour and drying on the finish. Lively enough with thick creamy head but just a bit lacklustre.

The pub is found in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, TS1 3BZ.

Located in Southfield Road. Modernised, split level, open plan building near the university. Sky Sports and music which becomes louder as the evening progresses. This pub is permanently closed. Bought for University Campus. But good food and excellent selections of ales usually from micros make this one of the few destination pubs for Teesside drinkers.

We have visited this pub 15 times, seen 29 different beers and tried 16 of them.
