Mid to late afternoon we'd missed the lunctime rush however a few drifted in for an afternoon pint during our stay on an unseasonably warm and sunny day. The chatty barmaid kept us occupied until her relief arrived at 16.00
BeerABVScoreNotes
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter4.00GoodAll my SBB expectations satisfied..
Black Sheep - Blonde3.70GoodFull bodied refreshing lemon grapefruit with sweet orange finished by a tingly lingering crisp bitterness. Superb so had another before departure.
Marston's - Wychwood Hobgoblin IPA (was Ruby Beer, was Hobgoblin)4.50Not Tried

Unexpectedly busy for a Saturday lunchtime which was good to see. mostly diners but a few drinkers at the bar too. Friendly and welcoming with more than enough staff to cope we were ushered to the back room where a couple of tables were available.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's)3.40GoodComplemented my juicy burger and chunky chips rather well...

Late afternoon with enough time to enjoy the warmth of the sun trap outside bench seats available at the front of the pub however the rear garden was already in shade. Not as busy as expected so I may have missed the lunchtime and early afternoon rush. Another mystery as to why ChrisE never rated this pub or wished to visit as obvious by the lack of reports, given its locality, convenient buses and consistently good beer quality despite the unexciting range.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter4.00GoodDitto my Ghost Ship comments thus all I need to say is my Harvey's expectations were most satisfied. I had another for quality control purposes and no different.
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride4.10GoodNowt wrong with the condition but seemed rather bland flavour wise. This really should be consigned to the history books!
Adnams - Ghost Ship4.50GoodBordering 3.5 and 4 this was well kept and enjoyable.
30 May 2023 (Magnus Greel)
Mid afternoon and a welcome intended refreshment stop after a walk along the Pilgrim's Way following my investigative visit to the closed Wheel at Westwell with ongoing renovation work and no date as yet for reopening..
BeerABVScoreNotes
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter4.00GoodAverage Harvey's but still within expectation parameters.
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's)3.40Good

After seeing a Facebook post advertising the last day of their beer festival and all beers at £3 a pint I tentatively walked up here expecting the beers to be in poor condition. They wasn't! Live band in the garden and a more mature crowd made for a pleasant and relaxed mid afternoon to early evening stay.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Timothy Taylor - Landlord4.30ExcellentPint No.5 and al the good stuff had gone..
Wye Valley - HPA (Hereford Pale Ale)4.00ExcellentHints of peachiness and hops with a subtle sweet tang and crystal clear.
Butcombe - Rare Breed (or Adam Henson's Rare Breed)3.80ExcellentNot the typical English bitter I was expecting, subtle malts combined with a toasty hoppy kick and hints of prune.
Old Dairy (being contract brewed after it closed) - Über Brew3.80ExcellentAn OD beer without the expected sulphurous taste, simple light hoppy and fruity..
Ringwood - Razorback3.80GoodNo.6 and ditto my No.5 comment
Twickenham (also uses sub-brand Old Hands) - Naked Ladies4.40AcceptableSlightly cloudy and after a twangy start all got better for this hoppy light grapeish ale.

Early lunchtime - out for a cycle. Log fire just lit, I chatted with a local who claimed to have done speeds of “forty to fifty miles an hour” down the nearby hill from Challock when he was a lad. I clocked 37 mph with a bit of a head wind so he may not have been exaggerating.

Old Dairy (being contract brewed after it closed) - Copper Top4.10AcceptableVery faint tartness but looked ok and plenty of life - first one out I’m guessing.

Lunchtime just for a drink. We were pleasantly ushered into the garden and provided with table service. Ok- but the garden looked rathe unkempt after the long opportunity of the lockdown.

Early to mid evening a few groups scattered about the pub, with a dozen or so more arriving during my visit made this busier than expected for a midweek evening. Both real ales doing well, I saw only 1 chap drinking lager.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter4.00ExcellentFrom a new cask and pleased to say my expectations satisfied.
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter4.00GoodClear and in fine form. Slightly sweeter than expected otherwise would be an easy 4*.
Fuller's (part of Asahi Europe) - London Pride4.10AcceptableFlat and lacking flavour.

1620hrs pub closed. Sign on door declaring from 22nd Feb closed weekdays between 3 and 5pm. Deciding not to hang around for 40 minutes I decided to continue with my plan and head for Wye on foot.
