Visits Details
02 Mar 2024 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening visit, at last a pub open on my walk. Low footfall but had a good conversation with an old Scot.
| Kent - Caramel Latte | 5.20 | | Tasty brew at £3.80 (as all three ales were tonight here) very palatable |
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - She Sells Sea Shells | 4.70 | | From a polypin, poured flat, no off flavours so OK |
| Tonbridge - Easy Street Pale | 3.90 | Not Tried | |
18 Jan 2020 (Philip Pirrip)
Mid evening and the place is closed for a private party. So onwards to The Dead Pigeon whose owner has insisted that this website does not permit reviews to be published for his venue - for the record it now sells only one handpumped cask ale there.
17 Aug 2019 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening visit. Good cracke over the temporary closure of the Flippin' Frog.
| Mr Grundy's - Western Front | 4.40 | | |
| Goose Eye - Goose Eye Bitter | 3.90 | | |
| Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Summer's Day | 4.30 | Not Tried | |
| Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - The Friar's Ale | 4.30 | Not Tried | |
26 Jun 2019 (Philip Pirrip)
Late afternoon visit. Given a guided tour of the planned new basement seating area, all warm, dry and cosy!
| Revolutions - Swoon | 4.50 | | Good but cloying chocolate fudge job |
| Iron Pier - Wealdway IPA | 4.50 | | |
| Oakham - Bishops Farewell | 4.60 | Not Tried | |
08 Jun 2019 (Stephen Harris)
Quiet and relaxed on Saturday late-afternoon
| Amber Ales - Barnes Wallis | 4.10 | | A robust amber-coloured Bitter with spicy Goldings hops. |
| Hydes - HPA | 4.50 | Not Tried | |
| Wantsum - Black Prince | 3.90 | Not Tried | |
| Wantsum - 10 Year Anniversary Ale | 5.20 | Not Tried | |
27 May 2019 (Philip Pirrip)
Mid evening visit. The seats in the window became free and made a respite from standing in the narrow area by the counter.
| XT Brewing - No. 4 Session Amber | 3.80 | | Flat so a total chore to finish. Should I have guessed from the tilt on the cask and / or the £3pp price as being one on clearance sale |
| Dark Star - American Pale Ale (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 4.70 | Not Tried | |
| Five Points - Railway Porter | 4.80 | Not Tried | |
22 Mar 2019 (Philip Pirrip)
Mid evening visit. Settled in with regular custom here.
| Angels & Demons (now uses McCanns branding not its own) - Goldilocks is Dead | 5.30 | | Full on hop hits |
| Whitstable - Oyster Stout | 4.50 | Not Tried | |
| Lincoln Green - Hood Best Bitter | 4.20 | Not Tried | Well tilted and on special offer at £2.60pp |
| Iron Pier - Rosherville Red | 4.80 | Not Tried | |
26 Oct 2018 (Philip Pirrip)
Evening visit. Full of customers and noisy with some sort of quite unnecessary tinny amplified music playing. Beer selection made difficult by the only indication a beer is on being a small oblong blue "12 Degrees" tab on the appropriate stillage door blackboard.
| Goffs - Lancer | 3.80 | | |
| Nethergate (was Nethergate Growler for a while then name reverted) - Suffolk County Best Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried | |
| Wantsum - Black Pig | 4.80 | Not Tried | |
| Ilkley - Pale | 4.20 | Not Tried | |
22 Sep 2018 (Philip Pirrip)
Late evening visit until last orders was called. Only been open a week now and seemed busy but it is narrow and cramped. An odd feature are the two little quiet seating booths upstairs, one of which I mistook at first to be a wax model tableau much to the chagrin of the 2 inhabitants when I saw them move. Run by an enthusiastic real ale man and his family.
| Isle of Purbeck - Fossil Fuel | 4.10 | | |
| Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - Kentish Bitter | 3.70 | | Not seen before. Apparently a basic bitter usually intended for pubs to give a house beer name to. Broken yeasty head and I noted minor off flavours |
| Wantsum - Fortitude (was 4.2%) | 4.60 | Not Tried | |
| Wantsum - Imperium | 4.00 | Not Tried | |
