Early Sunday afternoon. Quiet and civilised in here, with great sea views from my table.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Rother Valley - Blues5.00ExcellentSo dark brown it’s black. Very lovely. Chocolaty and very slightly sweet. Not sure if it is a Porter or an Old Ale.

02 Aug 2012 (Martin the Mildman)
Caught the tail end of lunchtime dining with a change of customer profile from diners to drinkers.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Rother Valley - Boadicea Ale4.50ExcellentVery impressed with this, seems to have had a tweak in recipe. Now shown as 4.5% and with an excellent pungent, floral hop character. Good malt character imparts a biscuity background all rounded off by a lingering fruity hop flavour. My score 16/20.

We did what we have been threatening to do for ages. Visit the White Rock Hotel on a nice sunny day and have a beer and some food on the terrace. Lots of others had the same idea. As usual, four beers from four different Sussex breweries including two dark ones.

A fairly mixed crowd including some of the performers due to appear at the White Rock Pavilion next door. Nice to see they are sticking with Sussex real ales.

Very pleasant sitting in the shaded verandah on a warm afternoon.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Dark Star - Sussex Extra Stout4.50ExcellentGood coffee and chocolate malt flavours backed up by citrus hop flavours. Dry, bitter chocolate finish. My score 16/20.
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's)3.40AcceptableVery pale, very hoppy, very dry and very citrussy. Refreshing on a hot day but just a little too dry and citrussy for my taste. Score 14/20.

Not quite sure I would agree with Martin's comments on the bar. I thought it was light, open and spacious but the old bar with it's 70s holiday camp feel had it's charm. It is still nice to see they are contiuing to stock beers from Sussex breweries and they allow dogs in certain areas. I must return in the Summer for a pint (or two) on the terrace.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Harvey's - Old Ale (or Sussex XXXX Old Ale)4.30ExcellentIn superb condition. I thought there was a hole in my glass.
Dark Star - Double Chocolate Stout4.50ExcellentA not to dry stout with the flavour of the chocolate malt coming through.
Harvey's - Hadlow Bitter3.50Not Tried
23 Aug 2009 (Martin the Mildman)
Bar area has moved to the right of the entrance and is now modern and minimalist with glass and steel dominating. Not sure it's an improvement.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's)3.40GoodNot my style of beer really, being a little too hoppy for my taste but it does what it's supposed to do very well. My score 15/20.
