28 Dec 2024 (Hogan Sampling)
Busy footfall in this much visited before backstreet gem with at least 4 cask on at any one time. Met with a warm, friendly service for my late afternoon visit and sat among the local CAMRA branch members on their afternoon outing.
Timothy Taylor - Knowle Spring | 4.20 | | Fresh on after my first two halves and presented with a great head and lacing. A very dry and moreishly hoppy mouthfeel, with a touch of citrus and spice, from this West Yorkshire brewery's blonde ale and with the dryness lingering. |
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | | Good head and lacing. A very bitter mouthfeel and as I like it. A moreishly dry aftertaste followed. |
Banks's - Wainwright Gold a.k.a.The Golden Beer | 4.10 | | Good head and lacing. A dry first hit with a lightly hoppy mouthfeel from this Wolverhampton-based brew. |
Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Greene King - Abbot | 5.00 | Not Tried
St Austell - Tribute | 4.20 | Not Tried

Late evening visit until close and just as the Harvey's ran out and was changed.
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | | 2nd pint out of a new cask just put on. Will mature better for tomorrow. Very much bitter end of the Harvey's Best possible taste spectrum. Getting pricey here |

Evening visit - all seats taken but soon vacated as live TV football ended. How come I have not visited this back-street gem for almost 11 years to the day.
Harvey's - Sussex Best Bitter | 4.00 | | I sometimes wonder what Harvey's Best should taste like but this must be a model for what it should be like. Superb |
