Lunchtime cycle meet. Warm enough (just) to sit in the garden. Pleasant enough. A few eaters in.

Lunchtime, cycle club meeting. We rather took over the left side bar - which I’m pleased to see has remained largely unaltered over the decades I have visited this pub, even though the right hand side has changed beyond recognition.

Lunchtime - cycling past - hadn’t been here for years. The indoor kids room/bowling alley is now a restaurant. Beer badges displayed on small fake barrels on the wall - all fetched from the tap room behind the bar. I’m guessing that only the Master Brew was cask.

Arrived about 4pm. I've not been here since the previous long standing landlord left. The pub had changed but not much. It was slightly more corporate in look but it still retained much of its original charm.

Like the display of wooden casks. Will visit again, although will need lots of money.

Came for lunch. It was nice and sunny in the garden, and quiet. The menu here has lots of options and I had a mixed grill which was very good. Staff here are always friendly.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Shepherd Neame - Late Red4.50AcceptableNo real condition on it. Couple of floaters so I'm guessing bottom of the barrel. Drinkable but a bit dull although there was still a hint of fruity malt about it.

Cycled here, which took about 15 mins, and arrived just after 7. It was such a nice evening that I sat out in the garden listening to the doves and watching the distant poplar trees swaying in the breeze.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Shepherd Neame - Master Brew Bitter3.70GoodIn reasonable condition. Nice hint of mandarine orange and some underlying caramel with a reasonable bitter finish

Very friendly, laid back, country pub with a lovely garden, good range of Sheps and an excellent food menu. Our inquisitive little toddler loves the garden and the landlord is kiddy (and dog) tolerant, so full marks there.
