24 Oct 2013 (ChrisE)
Lunchtime and a good crowd in what used to be the Public Bar. The main topic of conversation seemed to be about whether water softeners work or not.
Old Dairy - Gold Top | 4.30 | | Too cold for my liking, and causing condensation on the outside of the glass. |
Sharp's - Doom Bar | 4.00 | Not Tried

14:00 visit. A beer festival on today in this lovely old back street local. Lots of ales on and a good crowd out in the garden area listening to the live (and loud) band. Amazingly, the pub is surrounded by many small houses!
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Festiv'Ale | 3.80 | | Very tasty so gave it a 4* even though it's just under 4%. |
Box Steam - Chuffin' Ale | 4.00 | | In pretty good condition. |
Goacher's - Fine Light Ale | 3.70 | Not Tried
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Young's London Original (was Bitter) | 3.70 | Not Tried
21 Jan 2012 (Stephen Harris)
Quiet lunchtime session, with almost all the customers in the small Public Bar. My first visit here and it seems a very nice pub – I’ll forgive them the one iffy pint.
Hopdaemon - Golden Braid | 3.70 | | A golden, hoppy, well-carbonated and refreshing pint. |
Kent - Pale | 4.00 | | I know and like this beer, but this was not at all right. A nice pale colour, but a bit flat and a bit thin and the hopping struggling to shine through. And, oh dear, is that a faint whiff of acetic acid? Too long in the pipes perhaps. I would have returned it had I been on home territory. |
Everards (see entries against Joule's & Robinsons from now on) - Tiger | 4.20 | Not Tried
Skinner's - Best Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Young's London Original (was Bitter) | 3.70 | Not Tried
30 Jul 2011 (thebrewingman)
Quiet sunny Saturday. A few people in the real ale bar (where the pumps are).
Franklins - TEA | 4.20 | | I was bit puzzled here. It said Golden Ale on the pump clip but came up brown and bitter coloured and tasted like bitter. A bit confusing like the Yorkshire Brewery now brewed in Sussex bit also on the pump clip. |
Wantsum - Imperium | 4.00 | | I have not had this beer before and it tasted as if it was getting near the end of the barrel. |
Westerham - British Bulldog "BB" (was 4.3%) | 4.10 | Not Tried
Westerham - Grasshopper Kentish Bitter | 3.80 | Not Tried
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Young's London Special (was Special) | 4.50 | Not Tried
30 May 2011 (Ian)
Bank hol Monday lunchtime. Enjoyable cycle ride from Ashford and some new beers on. Funny out of all the pubs holding beer festivals this weekend this is the one I most want to come to. A real testament to the owners and locals.
Black Cat - Original | 4.20 | | Cask handpull. Clear amber colour lasting near white head. Beautiful lacing. Great condition. Great after a long cycle ride. Biscuit and herby hop aroma. Beautiful condition. Some bite on finish. As a brown bitter its good. Looking forward to the next beers. Touch of tea perhaps. |
Hopdaemon - Green Daemon | 5.00 | | Not many cask conditioned lagers in the world. This is good what can I say? |
Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - The Reeve's Ale | 4.10 | | Always thought of this as a brown ale as it is so malty. Just a little lacking in mouthfeel fullness but then I am super critical of condition. Good malty flavour though |
Old Dairy - Spring Top | 4.00 | | Huge thanks to Henry for the cellar run. Mid brown beer. Toasted brown malt aroma. Fantastic in the mouth. Slight green apple hop on finish. I do like this bitter a lot. Some yeast character on aroma. |
Westerham - Rob's Virtuous Ale | 4.00 | | Proper brown brown ale with some juicy American hops. Lovely |
Goacher's - Crown Imperial Stout | 4.50 | Not Tried
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Seasider | 4.30 | Not Tried
Royal Tunbridge Wells - Royal Best Bitter | 4.10 | Not Tried
Kent - KGB | 4.10 | Not Tried
Tonbridge - Coppernob | 3.80 | Not Tried
28 May 2011 (Ian)
May bank hol Kent beer and cider festival. Great beer lineup featuring the new Kent breweries. Been an odd morning being involved in an RTA on my cycle and I think I am still in delayed shock but nothing will stop me from having a pint
Goacher's - Crown Imperial Stout | 4.50 | | So drinkable |
Canterbury Ales (sometimes badged as Canterbrew) - The Wife of Bath's Ale | 3.90 | | I love the grassy citrus hops on thos beer |
Goacher's - Fine Light Ale | 3.70 | | Best half of this I have had in some time. Malt and orange fruit |
Larkins - Traditional | 3.40 | | My favourite 3.4% abv beer in the world. Surprisingly full in the mouth and bitter on the finish |
Old Dairy - Sun Top | 3.60 | | Very light golden beer but in cracking condition. Mouthfeel is almost worth the beer in itself |
Abigale - Samphire | 4.10 | | Yep fine just a little thin on the malts/mouthfeel. |
Whitstable - Winkle Picker | 4.50 | Not Tried
Westerham - British Bulldog Gold | 4.30 | Not Tried
Royal Tunbridge Wells - Royal Best Bitter | 4.10 | Not Tried
Kent - KGB | 4.10 | Not Tried
30 Jan 2011 (ChrisE)
Extremely busy, we sat in the right hand side bar as there was no room in the other one.
Tonbridge - Ebony Moon | 4.20 | | Wow, this was amazing. The landlord described it as a mild, but it was definitely a porter. A superb good quality dark full bodied beer. |
Whitstable - Native Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Young's London Original (was Bitter) | 3.70 | Not Tried
