Hogan Sampling | | 21 Aug 2025 | Saw this Bexley ruby bitter served to two others after getting stuck into my peach-infused pale from Salopian and noted this still had good head and lacing on it and so went for it, too. Its head and lacing not lasting as well as when I first tried it last Sunday which is to be expected. It still had much of its conditioning but tasted a tad thinner in its maltiness on its 5th night on. It was now like a soup minus its thickness. A malty bitterness still rising up and hints of biscuity caramel. Its rich maltiness perhaps not such a chore to get down my hatch as when first on. |

Hogan Sampling | | 19 Aug 2025 | Now the third night on for this Erith-brewed ruby bitter from the neighbouring Bexley borough. Head and lacing, still good, and lasting, also still good. A bitter malty first bite. Its Crystal malts still giving it that almighty malty taste with a hint of biscuity caramel for excitement. Still a soup-like consistency that you cannot simply quaff down. As much as it is moreish, it resolutely refuses to go down my hatch with any haste! Its English Goldings and Challenger hops lending it a good hop-infused bitterness. I had planned a supper on my return but it had so filled me up with its lashings of malt, I could not countenance the prospect. Beer is supposed to be liquid bread but in this instance what I had from the Redhouse ruby bitter felt like the equivalent of clearing at least one whole shelf in a bakers of bread. As much a challenge to get it to slither down as on Sunday when first tried. Once again, very moreish and so stuck to it but extremely heavy and so slow-going! |

Hogan Sampling | | 17 Aug 2025 | Fresh on and the epitome of what a good ruby bitter should look like was this Erith-brewed ale from the neighbouring Bexley borough. Positively foaming it was! A great relief after the earlier bitter's demise the evening before. Head and lacing, very good, and lasting, also very good. A very, very malty first bite from its Crystal malts. It reminded me of a soup-like consistency that you cannot simply quaff down. This needed to be sipped for its maltiness rising. A moreish bitterness got in on the act, aided by its English Goldings and Challenger hops. Hints of biscuity caramel coming to the fore alongside its lashings of maltiness managing to slither down my hatch. Very moreish and so stuck to it but slow-going! |

Hogan Sampling | | 20 Mar 2025 | Served with good head and lacing but not holding it for long on this Erith-based ruby bitter. I was told it was only its second night on having put in a late appearance on Wednesday. A malty first hit and a bitterness came to the fore in the mouthfeel. Could taste a touch of sweetness from its biscuit and caramel flavourings but its bitterness lingered. It had a slight kick to it. A further pint required much decanting to bring it back to life. |

Hogan Sampling | | 01 Mar 2025 | Not much head and lacing on this Erith-based ruby bitter and soon vanished. The consensus from the Saturday regulars was not to have more than one and I soon came to that conclusion as well! It had a first hit of biscuity and caramelly maltiness but otherwise was hugely lacklustre in flavouring. Little conditioning seemed to be apparent. A shame as fresh on today to be so flat! |
Philip Pirrip | | 28 Nov 2024 | New cask on today, great head just not to my taste. Grim range tonight here pushed me to move to cider |
Hogan Sampling | | 28 Nov 2024 | Also new on and so a good frothy head and lacing. A very malty first hit. Not sweet at all despite being described in the notes as biscuity with caramel flavouring. It held its head and lacing well but towards the end it was encouraged by a couple of decants. A bitter aftertaste prevailed. |
