Tasting Summary

These comments are the opinion of the individual reviewer and represent what they thought of the beer on a particular day in a particular pub. If a review is less favourable, it may be because the beer suffered somewhere in the supply chain between them and the brewery.

MickExceptional07 Jan 2012 Stunning, dark, fruity, rich and perfectly balanced and oh so drinkable despite the gravity. Served here in perfect condition as always.
AndrewExceptional06 Jan 2012 Ha ha. Ian ordered something else and Martyn questioned his choice and gave him a third of this before what he ordered. Ha ha, this was brilliant. Didn't taste anything like 7%. Condition was superb and the flavours excellent. Total winner.

HSBExceptional04 Apr 2015 Landlord saves a nine for Easter every year. He gives the cask an occasional roll to keep it working. He said that some years are better than others. This was superb. Christmas pudding raisins and sultanas. It retained its head all the way down the pint, and its freshness.

HSBExceptional26 Dec 2014 Superb. Best for some years.
HSBGood29 Dec 2013 My son and I had what we discovered to be the first two pints of the lunchtime session. The beer had aged distinctly since my pints on Boxing Day and was vinous and slightly sour. I had a second pint and it was identical in taste to my previous visit.
HSBExcellent26 Dec 2013 First I have seen this Christmas.

HSBAcceptable29 Jul 2014 The pub normally keeps a cask for a year but decided to tap it in conjunction with the beer festival. We had a half between us. It was sour and reminiscent of a Belgian beer. It had probably been in the pipe sometime.

IanAcceptable27 Jan 2007 Very deep ruby, with lasting beige head. Adnams yeasty aroma. Some dark malts, but the dark fruits are the stand out things here. Nice tingly hop finish. Not bad toffee too. The pump clip kept being turned around and then it was back on again.
