4th visit of this outing: Usual warm welcome and served promptly. A good few in enjoying their pints for our early evening visit to this wet-led-only weather-boarded ancient pub from a bygone age with all original fittings including the bar counter and bar-back in place. Found by turning left into the High Street from the station’s access road. A good shaded area afforded in the pub’s rear courtyard to exchange banter with all 3 now locals but who had all originally come from SE London.

| Green Jack - Trawlerboys Best Bitter | 4.60 | | 1st beer of this visit: Very good head and lasting lacing on this deep copper, bronze-coloured best bitter from Lowestoft in Suffolk where now brewed having been originally founded in 1993 and based inside an old Victorian fish smokehouse and processing shed. A very dry bitter first hit emanating from its English whole cone hops, Challenger and Bramling Cross. A hint of caramelised maltiness rising from its East Anglian pale barley malt with a hint of honey biscuits, plums and red fruits for my taste buds. A hint of toffee and sweet orange marmalade, blending into nutty chocolatey notes winning over. A dry hoppy English hedgerow bitterness prevailing on its downwards descent. Seriously well presented with a wonderful lasting mouthfeel. |

A very dry bitter first hit. A roasted maltiness rising from its blend of dark roasted malts winning over giving this porter much of its flavours. A traditional hoppiness from its British Goldings and Fuggles hops. A dry hoppy and malty finish sliding down. Served in top notch condition with superb conditioning. *Their associated pub, The Odd One Out, is on Mersea Road in Colchester. |

Very busy inside and out for early evening visit due to a live band in backyard and a mini-beer festival of 4 cask ales held in the large shed in the rear garden and being run as a charity fundraiser.

Mid afternoon fairly quiet until our group arrived, we decided to occupy the empty beer garden on a mild dry day hence leaving a couple of locals propping up the bar to carry on enjoying the peaceful relaxed atmosphere there.

12:00 First stop on a chum's 57th birthday pub crawl. Seven of us and a group of locals soon made the pub look busy. My first visit here and I was very impressed with the breweriana on display.

A fine old pub which I find my way to all too infrequently. Just a modest number of customers (three and a half, according to the Guv’nor – in reality around ten) in mid-afternoon. I had to do a double take when one started regaling us with tales of seeing the Who play last night at Hyde Park – defiantly a different bloke to the one at the Cricketers a couple of hours earlier.

The pub is found in Southminster, Essex, CM0 7EW.
White weatherboarded building located in Station Road, a short walk from the local terminus railway station. Regular guest ales. Has won many local CAMRA branch awards. CAMRA Essex Pub of the Year for 2008. Regular beer festivals. Once a Whitbread house as proven by a framed pub sign picture inside. The bare-boarded single bar is decorated with railway and brewery memorabilia. There is a darts team, an annual conker competition, and a Sunday meat raffle. The courtyard area hosts two beer festivals annually, one in January and one during the late May bank holiday.
