11:45 visit. First call on todays "jolly" to Historic Rochester. Always much nicer in Rochester outside of all the annual festival razzmatazz. Steady crowd here with some good ales on.

1230 visit, and got served quickly. Came to Rochester to do the Dicken's fest. Wish I hadn't? Manically busy everywhere, and only one Bratwurst stall in the "German Market". The Ales I found here today and elsewhere were spot on though.
Hook Norton - Twelve Days | 5.50 | | A top dark un'. In good nick here. |

08 Apr 2010 (Alenomore)
Start of a three day "break" and en-route, via a few JD's, to visit Bexley Beer Festival.
First stop and this JD, fairly busy at 1230, more diners than drinkers though. Good selection on.
St Peter's - Old Style Porter | 5.10 | | Top class. As a porter should be. |
Everards (see entries against Joule's & Robinsons whilst its new brewery was being built) - Val-Dieu Abbaye Blonde | 5.50 | | So so. Brewed at Everards. Lifeless, thin. Not a patch on a proper Belgium ale. |
Moorhouse's - Amber Rambler | 4.80 | Not Tried
Brains - Honest Ale | 4.50 | Not Tried
Greene King - Suffolk Springer | 5.50 | Not Tried

23 Jan 2010 (Ian)
'Spoons on the high street through Rochester. Quite a nice one really, ok and airy at rear. I sat in the front room listening to film reviews from the next table and waiting for Andrew's train.
Weltons - Winter Special | 5.60 | | Advertised as a stout with nutmeg. Dark brown with thin beige head. Not great. Base beer is ok but spice is not my favourite. Good condition. Spice is, well, ... spicy. |
Weltons - Wassail | 6.10 | | Very dark brown, lasting creamy head. Traditionally this was made with honey. there may be some sweetness here from honey but just as easy it could come from the alcohol. Certainly a warm heat here. This is ok. solid winter warmer. Alcohol is a little raw on finish. It's a decent strong ale, not huge hops anywhere. Just a little sweet maybe. |
06 May 2006 (Ian)
Came for breakfast and it was already pretty busy by 10.30. Just had a half before catching the train to London
Burton Bridge - XL Bitter | 4.00 | | Good enough hops, bit watery in mouth, dry earthy hop finish, which turns a bit peppery |
Moorhouse's - Premier Bitter (was 3.8%) | 3.70 | | Copper, nice enough, nice soft hop, good citrus, flavours are not too intense. Better than the average bitter |
