Friday evening and there is a good crowd in here.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hop Kettle (Cricklade & Swindon Breweries) - Black Adder6.10ExcellentA strong Black IPA, with thick malt, liquorice flavours and lots of hops.

Mid-evening until late. A very nice atmosphere in here, and nobody minded that we had occupied a table on which just to drink (and talk rubbish) amidst the main dining area.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Jaipur5.90Excellent
Summer Wine (SWB) - Union Pale Ale4.10ExcellentA very nice, hoppy pale ale.

Just back from Heathrow Airport and I popped in here for an early evening snack (as the cupboard was bare at home). I never got around to the snack, but ran in to some friends and ended up staying to closing time.
BeerABVScoreNotes
TicketyBrew - Pale Ale5.30ExcellentAmber-coloured brew. I liked this a lot and had several.
Flipside - Flipping Best4.60GoodTastes very malty and bitter after a few days away from English beers. Pretty good though.
Harbour - Amber Ale4.00AcceptableNot on top form – a little green I think. Tasted harsh.
Abbeydale - Moonshine4.30Not Tried
Adnams - Oyster Stout4.30Not Tried

Early evening visit after turning away from the Orient Supporters Club, which is mobbed by members enthusiastically hovering up what is left of the beer festival there. Pretty busy in here too after today’s football match.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hardknott - Coolfusion4.40ExcellentDistinctly odd, but delightful. I started off thinking I had picked up a pint of lager and lime by mistake. Then the ginger hit me, and finally I got the hops.
Crate - IPA5.80GoodAmber-coloured and very fruity.

Very busy in the early evening in the run up to football at Brisbane Road.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hand Drawn Monkey - IPΔ Extra Pale IPA5.00ExcellentVery pale. Fragrantly hoppy, lemony hop flavours.
Kissingate - Mandarina Red4.80GoodA malty red ale with outrageously fruity, orangey flavours. Not sure I’d want a second one, but I did enjoy this.
Caveman (latterly a cuckoo at Leatherbritches) - EKG3.00AcceptableLight malt, low-strength, Kentish hops. Little bit of spice, but a bit too insubstantial for me.
Ilkley - Mary Jane3.50Not Tried
Sunny Republic - Huna Red4.20Not Tried

Quiet when I arrived, but rapidly filling out as quiz time approached. I’m far too thick for quizzing, so headed home.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Brewster's - Decadence4.40GoodPale and quite dry. Floral hops.
Redemption - Fellowship Porter5.10PoorUsually an excellent pint. But not this example which was thin-tasting and heading a little towards sourness.
Dark Star - Winter Meltdown5.00Not Tried
Swannay (formerly Highland) - Island Hopping3.90Not Tried
East London (ELB) - Orchid Vanilla Mild3.60Not Tried
16 Jan 2014 (Stephen Harris)
Fairly busy in here, with a band setting up for a later performance.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Big Penny (formerly Truman's) as of late 2022 contract brewed - Emperor4.20GoodNutty and thick and malty and a bit of caramel. Chestnut-coloured. Infinitely better than the Everard’s-brewed prototype of this beer.
Clarkshaws - Gorgon's Alive!4.00AcceptableDescribed as ‘naturally hazy’ and a bit too much so in my view. Golden coloured, but the amount of suspended yeast detracted from the flavours.
Sharp's - Doom Bar4.00Not Tried
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Jaipur5.90Not Tried
Redemption - Fellowship Porter5.10Not Tried

The pub is found in Leyton, Greater London, E10 5OJ.

In High Road, initially this pub existed as a short-term ‘Pop-Up’ pub, open for the duration of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Then closed for nearly a year, it re-opened on a permanent basis in August 2013. The pub is housed in part of the former Leyton Town Hall. It has several different rooms in which to drink, and the toilets are housed deep in the dungeons. The interior of the pub is now very much more homely and comfortable than it appears in my early photo on this site from its pop-up days. Reclaimed by landlord and closed on October 2022, after alleged non-payment of rent. Re-opened under operation of Remarkable Pubs with a change of name in September 2024.

We have visited this pub 125 times, seen 256 different beers and tried 139 of them.
