Visits Details
12 Feb 2015 (Stephen Harris)
Mid to late-evening visit. Plenty of the usual Thursday crowd here.
| Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Made North | 3.80 | | Dry, golden bitter in the Manchester style. Well-crafted and well-balanced, as you would expect from Thornbridge. |
| Tap East - JPB (Jonny Park Bitter) | 4.00 | | New Session Bitter, named after the current brewer, which I expect will replace JWB, which is named after a former brewer (Jim Wilson – now of Peoples Park Tavern). |
| Dark Star - Espresso Stout | 4.20 | Not Tried | |
| Oakham - Scarlet Macaw | 4.40 | Not Tried | |
| Tap East - JWB (Jim Wilson Bitter) | 3.80 | Not Tried | |
| Tap East - Coffee in the Morning (has been 5.7% too) | 5.60 | Not Tried | |
05 Feb 2015 (Stephen Harris)
As of today I am £8 a month richer, having re-negotiated my telephone contract. I thought I would spend February’s £8 in here (and some more).
| Liverpool Craft - Love Lane Pale | 4.50 | | Pale gold in colour, with fruity hops and a bitter finish. |
| Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Cocoa Wonderland | 6.80 | | A strong, dark red/brown porter with a massive chocolate hit. |
| Liverpool Craft - American Red Ale | 5.00 | | This didn’t really work for me. Seemed to lack both hops and body. |
| Tap East - JWB (Jim Wilson Bitter) | 3.80 | Not Tried | |
| Tap East - Tonic Ale | 3.00 | Not Tried | |
| Tap East - IPA | 6.00 | Not Tried | |
29 Jan 2015 (Stephen Harris)
Back in England after two weeks away and catching up on local gossip.
| Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Galaxia (superseded by 4.5% version) | 5.20 | | Nicely hoppy. |
| Tap East - IPA | 6.00 | | A new recipe (although not honoured with its own name) featuring Willamete hops. Dry. |
| Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - McConnel's | 5.00 | Not Tried | |
| Tap East - Coffee in the Morning (has been 5.7% too) | 5.60 | Not Tried | |
| Ilkley - Joshua Jane | 3.70 | Not Tried | |
| Tap East - Tonic Ale | 3.00 | Not Tried | |
14 Jan 2015 (Stephen Harris)
I’m shoving off to foreign parts on holiday for a couple of weeks. Places that have almost certainly never heard of hops; so I need to bulk up my hop levels before departure, starting here, and they have just the beer for it.
| Oakham - Citra | 4.20 | | Just lovely. |
| Tap East - JWB (Jim Wilson Bitter) | 3.80 | Not Tried | |
| Tap East - Coffee in the Morning (has been 5.7% too) | 5.60 | Not Tried | |
| Tap East - Tonic Ale | 3.00 | Not Tried | |
| Dark Star - Darkness | 3.50 | Not Tried | |
11 Jan 2015 (Stephen Harris)
A lunchtime meet-up here with a friend from Peterborough who is keen to catch up with some of the beers from the new wave of east London brewers. I have a whirlwind pub-crawl in mind.
| Tap East - Tonic Ale | 3.00 | | First time I have drunk this for a while, and today it seemed just a little harsh and un-balanced. |
| Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 3.40 | Not Tried | |
| Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Jaipur | 5.90 | Not Tried | |
| Tap East - Coffee in the Morning (has been 5.7% too) | 5.60 | Not Tried | |
| Dark Star - The Art of Darkness | 3.50 | Not Tried | |
| Tap East - Sixpence Stout | 5.00 | Not Tried | |
29 Dec 2014 (Stephen Harris)
Good to be back on terra cognita in east London for an after-work drink.
| Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Beerkeepers | 5.30 | | Not sure if this is the same beer that I drank in March, but it has the same name and strength. Not obviously wheaty, still quite fruity, obvious honey content. |
| WharfeBank - Treacle Toffee Stout | 4.40 | | A very sweet Milk Stout with a thick caramel / treacle taste. Far too sweet for me. I guess there were clues in the beer’s name. |
| Oakham - JHB | 3.80 | Not Tried | |
| Tap East - East End Mild | 3.50 | Not Tried | |
| Tap East - JWB (Jim Wilson Bitter) | 3.80 | Not Tried | |

26 Dec 2014 (ChrisE)
Lunch time, the shopping centre was very busy but the pub was surprisingly quiet which gave me a good chance to chat with the bar staff. Mr Pirrip made one of his rare daylight appearances.
