Wednesday afternoon. I read Nick Antonia's article in Wetherspoon News and supped my pint. COVID controls have been good here since reopening but are much enhanced now with no-one allowed through the front door until they have completed the essential paperwork.
Wantsum - Ravening Wolf | 5.90 | | Sweeter than I remember it. Reassuring that I can taste it in the present circumstances. |
Wantsum - 1381 | 3.80 | Not Tried
12 Sep 2020 (ChrisE)
Not many pubs in this town meet my interpretation of COVID secure. This is a good one and reasonably busy. I was not able to buy a pint until I had completed the necessary paperwork.
Shepherd Neame - Bishops Finger | 5.00 | | At £1.99 per pint (£1.49 with voucher) Magnus would have loved this. |
Old Dairy (being contract brewed after it closed) - Blue Top | 4.80 | Not Tried | Ordered but it ran out. |
29 Aug 2020 (ChrisE)
Saturday afternoon. My list of COVID safe pubs in this town is getting progressively smaller but precautions are good here.
Whitstable - Oyster Stout | 4.50 | | This is superb and most pumps seem to be adorned with this clip. |
Skinner's - Betty Stogs Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried
01 Aug 2020 (ChrisE)
I had been to the Made Inn earlier where Steve (the guv) told me that he had been here a couple of times recently and that they were taking COVID-19 precautions seriously and this was one of the safer pubs in the area to visit.
A very nice atmosphere in here, I had to ask for a top up but this was given in good grace, I sat at a table and read the current edition of Wetherspoon News. The Manager's special food offerings looked very tempting but I had started preparing my dinner before I went out so I decided to stick with the beer. I did not note all the beers that were on offer but there was a good selection from local breweries.
Hopdaemon - Incubus | 4.00
11 Mar 2020 (ChrisE)
Late afternoon and reassuringly busy.
Wantsum - Black Pig | 4.80 | | A delicious dark beer. |
Banks's - Ringwood Fortyniner | 4.90 | Not Tried
Greene King - Ruddles Best (was 3.7%) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Wantsum - Imperium | 4.00 | Not Tried
29 Jan 2020 (ChrisE)
Early afternoon and much busier than other pubs that I had passed esrlier.
Nottingham - Legend | 4.00 | | A well kept pint. |
Wantsum - Red Raddle | 5.00 | Not Tried
25 Jul 2019 (Jack William)
Start of my annual pub crawl with my daughter.
Just after noon - not too busy, cool inside.
Just noted One of the two banks of pumps.
Shepherd Neame - Coronado West Coast Session IPA | 5.00 | | A very nicely crafted IPA in top condition. Not sure who goes on a “session” with 5.0% ales though (oh that’s right - everyone at the Dover Winter beer festival). |
Sharp's - Doom Bar | 4.00 | Not Tried
Greene King - Ruddles Best (was 3.7%) | 3.40 | Not Tried
17 Mar 2019 (ChrisE)
Disappointing visit.
West Berkshire - Maharaja IPA | 5.10 | | Last one out from two pumps to get a pint. More mud but tasted O.K. |
Old Dairy (being contract brewed after it closed) - Red Top | 3.80 | Not Tried
Wantsum - Montgomery (was SS Richard Montgomery) | 4.00 | Not Tried | A pint of mud. Returned and exchanged. |
05 Feb 2019 (ChrisE)
Early afternoon visit and fairly busy.
Hopdaemon - Golden Braid | 3.70
Westerham - Viceroy India Pale Ale | 5.00 | Not Tried
Wantsum - Overlord | 6.00 | Not Tried
27 Nov 2018 (ChrisE)
It was reassuring to see this place busy as all the other pubs that I had visited seemed to be empty. The Tuesday steak offering seemed to be very popular.
Adnams - Bodebrown Brewery Cerveja Curitiba Brazilian Pale Ale | 5.00 | | Very good condition. |
Greene King - Abbot Reserve | 6.50 | Not Tried | I must try this sometime. |
