Not too busy but a few more mature customers eating. Ah the Dolphin; a stalwart of Canterbury pub crawls from years back.

I've always liked the flags and foreign currency on the ceiling. ...and where else can you get East Kent Bitter! Oh yes, that was 20 years ago. Still a good pub even without the money covered ceiling. Sat where we always did and drank Kent bitter like we always use to.

Old Dairy (being contract brewed after it closed) - Red Top3.80ExceptionalWinner. Had 2 pints of this. Sweet, malty, frothy, nice balanced hop bite.

Came because Ian said the Dark Conspiracy was on. ...and as we're drinking it who should come in but Eddie Gadd; so we chatted to him about beer.

Busy so we sat around the corner by a poster from September 1982 showing Jimmy Saville advertising a train trip from Havant to Blackpool. That made us wonder what we were doing in September 82. ...and why anyone would want to go from Havant to Blackpool.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopdaemon - Golden Braid3.70GoodGood condition. Reminded me of Swale Kentish Admiral (which of course isn't brewed anymore)

Stop no. 2 on my jaunt round Canterbury on a Saturday evening. Quite busy. Friendly and rather attractive staff behind the bar.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wantsum - Turbulent Priest4.40AcceptableBrown with thin off white head. OK bitter, some yeast and odd lemon on aroma. Fine, ok earthy bitter. Could do with some more hop on the end. Finish is really quite malty.

We'd gone to Canterbury for a walk really. We'd pottered through town and West Gate park and felt we'd earned a drink. As the Dolphin's got a nice garden we headed there. It was busy in the garden but we got a bench and then spent 20 minutes trying to entertain Isabel. The group of lads on the table next to us were quite amusing. One of them had a phone conversation with his mate that went like this, "I can't hear you. ...because you're drunk? Oh you're South African".
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hopdaemon - Golden Braid3.70GoodExcellent condition. Slightly creamy with body. This felt like an oaty best bitter. Nothing like the Golden Braid of years ago which would blow your socks off with its dry, hoppy, blast. Still, a good session bitter.
