Evening at 8pm. Door locked but faces inside, persistent rattling paid off and entry obtained and a small party of cognoscenti eating roast chestnuts, cheese and other festives was in situ. Thanks to Guv for letting me in.

Credit to Weltons whom I often criticise for mediocrity, this was alarmingly woody and spicy and festive

Taster proves Cottage can produce a decent beer, have I just said that? Oh for the days of its original Norman's Conquest in 1995 drunk in Chris Norman's garage
Micropub in York Street that opened on Good Friday 2013 on the site of the Hovelling Boat pub which closed in 1909 (and re-opened 104 years later). No lager or keg beers are sold here. Other past lives of the building have been as a florist's shop and a fancy gift shop. A menu of the beer and cider on offer is shown on a wall blackboard then your drink is fetched (with table service) from a back room having been served on gravity dispense there. Under new ownership in spring 2018.
We have visited this pub 381 times, seen 407 different beers and tried 283 of them.
