My first visit here, it was smaller than I expected. A nice friendly Spoons which appeared to have a lot of local custom. I made the decision to walk along Upper Street pub by pub to Highbury & Islington railway station.

Mid-evening and this pub is thronged. There are lots of festival beers available, but I only record my two halves.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Hook Norton - Birrificio MC-77 Mild the Gap4.50GoodDark brown in colour, a nice full-bodied, dark Mild.
Caledonian - Brouwerij 'T IJ Flink4.70GoodA Golden Ale that is tasty without being special.
30 May 2016 (Stephen Harris)
Not busy, but with just one staff member it still took ages to get served. Seemed to be the hangout of hard drinkers in the front area and young families taking advantage of cheap food in the rear area. I decided just to have a half and not hang around.
BeerABVScoreNotes

Evening. Awfully disorganised service in the run up to closing time when the extra last orders need proper staffing and prioritisation of the queue. A shambles.

The pub is found in Islington, Central London, N1 9LQ.

Just opposite Angel tube station on Upper Street, this pub has the bar to the left as you enter with some raised drinking areas and some booths the further back you go into the pub. Smallish Wetherspoon's, but fine for the hustle and bustle of Upper Street. Very steep precarious stairs lead down to the toilets. The counter is equipped with 12 handpumps in 2 separate banks, each of 6. Placed up for sale by Wetherspoon September 2022 with 31 others. Taken over by Urban Pubs and Bars in early summer 2023 with change of name and temporarily closed for an interior rehash. Re-opened 20th July 2023 with real ale usually available. Re-opened with yet another name in 2024.

We have visited this pub 33 times, seen 129 different beers and tried 40 of them.
