Tasting Summary
These comments are the opinion of the individual reviewer and represent what they thought of the beer on a particular day in a particular pub. If a review is less favourable, it may be because the beer suffered somewhere in the supply chain between them and the brewery.

Hogan Sampling | | 19 Apr 2025 | Thanet following me on my journey back to London in getting this Manston-based amber bitter, south-east of Birchington-on-Sea, and from Shivering Sands set up in 2020. Good head and lacing. A dry bitterness was the first hit. A gentle spicy fruitiness in the mouthfeel and a dry bitterness lasting. |
Hogan Sampling | | 08 Feb 2025 | In great shape with its head and lacing on display throughout on this dark amber ale from this Thanet-based brewery near Ramsgate in Kent. A spicy first hit. A bitter and hoppy mouthfeel and a moreish bitterness lingering. |

Hogan Sampling | | 07 Jun 2025 | Excellent head and lacing on this dark amber ale from Manston, near Ramsgate, and lasting superbly. A moreishly dry bitter first hit. A touch of malty caramel flavouring rising up in the mouthfeel alongside a fruit-infused hoppiness from US-style hops winning over on the taste buds. A lip-smacking hoppy dryness to end on. Set up in summer of 2020, I have always enjoyed Shivering Sands. This bitter has got its name from the designer of the Maunsell sea forts north of Herne Bay, which were built during the Second World War. In the mid-1960s the forts at Shivering Sands became home to pirate radio, including Radio Sutch set up by Screaming Lord Sutch. |
