Tasting Summary

These comments are the opinion of the individual reviewer and represent what they thought of the beer on a particular day in a particular pub. If a review is less favourable, it may be because the beer suffered somewhere in the supply chain between them and the brewery.

DubbelAcceptable29 Dec 2008 I really don't 'get' Youngs beers. This is one of their better efforts I suppose but, despite being fresh as a daisy, really wasn't anything to write home about. There are a wealth of better winter warmers out there IMHO.

IanAcceptable22 Nov 2008 Funny, I was looking at my entries for this beer only a couple of days ago. One of my favourite winter warmer beers, but this was more liquoricey than I remember. A steal at £2.50 a pint. Maybe its the first time they have brewed this at the new plant.

IanExcellent14 Jan 2006 Choc malts, deep flavours, warm attractive. Benefits from not being too dark and therefore having burnt roast malt. Touch of liquorice and stunningly good
IanExcellent13 Feb 2005 Dark brown/ruby beer with rich malty fruit and brown sugar flavour. Hoppy spiciness on the end. Splendid to keep you warm

The Samuel Peto, Folkestone, Kent

WhoScoreWhenNotes
IanExcellent03 Jan 2006 One of my real favourite winter beers. Lots of rich fruit and chocolate malts. Smooth in the mouth and kicks a punch at the end although you can't really taste the alcohol. Gorgeous stuff, but I really must limit myself to only halves of this especially on an empty stomach. I was a bit wayward on the way back to the station.
