Tuesday evening, a bit of a chat with a couple of regulars - the only customers in early. Enjoyed a few classic songs on the free jukebox.
RedWillow - Headless | 3.90 | | Top class session pale ale |
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - War Horse | 4.00 | | Very acceptable retro brown ale. |
Bexley - Golden Acre | 4.00 | | Only a taster of this - rather too sharp for me; unfined |
Triple fff - Pressed Rat & Warthog | 3.80 | Not Tried
Skinner's - Betty Stogs Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried

Early Sunday evening. A genial atmosphere. Excellent choice of ales as usual - the only fly in the ointment here is the one, experienced, bartender who seems incapable of pulling a full pint and makes a fuss when asked for a top up.
Dark Star - American Pale Ale (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 4.70 | | Couldn’t fault this (after I’d asked for a top up on the short pint). Superb flavour and condition. |
Anarchy - Midnight Metro | 4.00 | | Unlined and very cloudy pale ale. Lacked the body usually found in unfined ales but I did get a bit of an orange flavour. Didn’t really enjoy it. |
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Seasider | 4.30 | Not Tried
New Bristol - Cinder Toffee Stout | 4.00 | Not Tried
Kent - The Quiet American | 4.20 | Not Tried

Came to meet friends. Five of us in the end. The pub was fairly busy with the Beatles and Queen playing on the stereo.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 5 | 4.40 | | This was top notch. Best pint of No. 5 I've had for ages. |
Kent - Green Ernest | 4.60 | | A nice green hop beer. Pale gold. |
Orkney (Sinclair) - Dark Munro | 4.00 | | Good body. Black with a decent frothy white head. Tasked low hopped and a hint of sour milk |
Musket - Flintlock Best Bitter | 4.20 | | A touch flat |
St Austell - Tribute | 4.20 | Not Tried
Oakham - Citra | 4.20 | Not Tried
Oakham - Scarlet Macaw | 4.40 | Not Tried
25 Sep 2024 (Magnus Greel)
Early afternoon and busy with a few at the bar and group of ale drinkers enjoying the variety and quality of ales on offer as one expects here.
Kent - Old Jamaica | 5.10 | | Ticked all my silky smooth chocolate toffee and vanilla boxes with thankfully just a hint of ginger. |
Kent - Tropic Ale | 4.90 | | Does what it says on the tin! |
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Seasider | 4.30 | Not Tried

Saturday evening. Nicely busy. Previous landlord and landlady just turned up.
Arbor Ales - C Bomb | 4.70 | | Heavy grapefruit. I didn’t drop it (geddit?) |
Kent - The Quiet American | 4.20 | | Yummy |
Oakham - Scarlet Macaw | 4.40 | | Was about to leave when I spotted this lurking by the now very busy “landlady’s corner”. Oakham is still going strong thankfully. |

Kent - Session Pale | 3.70 | Not Tried
Lakedown - Kicking Donkey Best Bitter | 4.20 | Not Tried

Mid evening. Unusually quiet in here tonight. Just 3 of us in the bar. Good ales, daft conversation. A Ruby Mild on also - not sure whose.
Muirhouse - Big Bertha! | 4.00 | | A really zesty, fruity pale al, sparklingly clear. |
Dark Star - Hophead was 3.8% (some has also been brewed by Fuller's) | 3.40
Adnams - Broadside | 4.70 | Not Tried
Skinner's - Betty Stogs Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried

Early Friday evening. A good smattering of people in all areas and plenty of comings and goings as I supped and chatted. This is an outstanding Canterbury pub, good variety of ales on at an average of £4 a pint.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Stan the Man | 4.20 | | First time I’d come across this beer from Gadd’s. Full of flavour and great body. |
Kent - Prohibition | 4.80 | | Just wasn’t as tasty as the Gadd’s, but a lovely pint nonetheless. |
Kent - Nah Na Nah | 4.50 | | A tribute to the vindaloo football anthem. |
Adnams - Southwold Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
Settle - Old Smithy Porter | 4.70 | Not Tried
Skinner's - A Pint of Two Halves | 3.80 | Not Tried
26 May 2024 (Jack William)
Evening visit, beer festival - just missed the band who had finished well before the advertised end time of 8. The beers have obviously been going well and only two remained outside with the “reserves” already on inside. Won’t be worth a special visit Monday. Plenty of people inside and out - a good vibe. About 8 ales on in total.
Salopian - Oracle | 4.00 | | |
Moorhouse's - Pride of Pendle | 4.10 | | One of the two beer festival ales left outside. Rather flat and unremarkable. |
25 May 2024 (Jack William)
Contemporaneous entry. Beer festival underway- goes on until Monday - live music Sunday. About 20 ales on. (Will add more later).
Little Critters - White Wolf | 5.00 | | Clear and punchy but rather lifeless. |
