Late lunchtime just before 3pm closing. A good few in here today for a weekday lunchtime. Missed Chris - same beers as he listed. Just had to try the Prohibition X.

Lunchtime meeting for our cycle group. 10 of us for nearly 3 hours got the place buzzing.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Lakedown - Firefall4.80ExcellentBy far the most popular ale for the group. Very drinkable red ale belying its strength.
Tonbridge - Blonde Ambition4.20Good
Wylam - Gold4.00AcceptableNothing wrong with this - but very bland.
Downlands (formerly South Downs) - Best4.10Not Tried
Kent - Aztec 4.90Not TriedI won’t mark this as it was a freebie 1/3 at the very end of the barrel - but I had to turn it down.

Evening, just back from Down Under. Needed some real ale. Very jolly in here tonight for a Tuesday night - bit of a party atmosphere. 6 ales on, just noted the three pumps that I could get to!

Iron Pier - Challenger Joined at the Green Hop (2024) 4.20Good2025 version, same strength.
Pentrich - Fighting For a Sandwich 4.30AcceptableJust had a taster of this - unfined and thick as soup (not “naturally hazy” as the pump clip advertised). Fruity pale ale. Stupid name.

Sunday lunchtime. I was first in at noon, seven of my cycling group joined me within an hour and we had a most enjoyable session in the garden. 7 ales on, Guinness at £5 a pint. Everyone happy.

3rd visit of the outing: Perhaps the most unlikely of frontages for this old-fashioned pub as a former backstreet terraced house! A walkabout inside revealed a long conservatory at its rear, leading into a sizeable garden that many a Victorian terraced-house would have been without. As recently as 2022 it was local CAMRA Pub of the Year having been that for two years on the trot from 2017. Certainly an impressive array of real ales and on my visit no less than 7 on. Warm and friendly service from the barmaid for our early afternoon visit and very reasonably priced for my half.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Wantsum - UXB?4.60ExcellentFollowing the theme of fruitiness after the peach-infused pale ale at our last stop, this St Nicholas-at-Wade, from just outside Birchington-on-Sea, porter was a perfect carry-on! Head and lacing, very good, and lasting, good. Its creamy head led to a dry bitter and raspberry-infused first bite. Its bitterness rising up among its fruity hoppiness with a touch of chocolate in on the mix. Very moreish and not too overly tasting of raspberries! Very reasonably priced at £4.30.

Early evening. Dry ride there, wet ride back. Appropriate. A few locals in, Guv Katrina regaling us with stories of her flooded cellar yesterday. Hasn’t affected the beer quality.
