I came to Folkestone to buy some Sevenoaks Cheddar from the nearby County Fayre shop, and the Guildhall is very close by so I popped in for a pint. I had a good chat with the tenants and customers, most enjoyable.

Lees (see also JW Lees) - The Governor | 3.80 | | A good malty session brew. |

Always a very friendly welcome at this pub. Someone mistook me for a regular at The Dog & Bell in Deptford, which was odd. I sat outside and looked out over Folkestone
Hobsons - Mild | 3.20 | | I couldn't believe the quality of this beer. Beautiful condition and lots of dark fruits, choc and coffee and a good drying finish. One of the best milds I've had. |

Very good local in nicest district of Folkestone.
Batemans - Hooker | 4.50 | | Simply a good bitter, top condition, temperature, served well, hoppy. Good malt biscuit base, everything a bitter should be. |

Recently been refurbed. I sat outside enjoying the late afternoon sunshine.
Cains - 2008 Ale | 5.00 | | Badged as Cains Culture Beer. Odd toffee/yeast aroma. Some earthy hop and caramel malt in mouth, dusty earthy hop finish. Strange English strong beer. Aroma as if it is slightly tired and got some diacetyl. This is a bit ugly. |
Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Greene King - Abbot | 5.00 | Not Tried
Otter - Ale | 4.50 | Not Tried

Friendly welcome at this Pubmaster pub. Normally 4 beers on with a list of soon to come beers, which included beers from Sharps, Mordue, Archers and Brains.
Marston's - Old Empire IPA | 5.70 | | Deep copper colour with lasting off white head. Perfumey hop aroma is slight. Good in mouth, some toffee, some warming alcohol. Good dose of hops. Some yeast. Bit of syrupy malt. Goodish white flesh stone fruit/peach/nectarine. |
Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Young's London Special (was Special) | 4.50 | Not Tried

I rather like this pub, lit up in the winter night, coming up into the Bayle area. Beers from Jennings, Mordue, St Peters, Archers and Exmoor all coming on soon. Handful of friendly locals at the bar.
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Wells Bombardier (now superseded by 4.1% version) | 4.30 | | Some yeast on aroma. Reasonalby tasty malt in mouth, mind you it was difficult to taste anything after having the Thomas Hardy ale at the 'Spoons. Soft and full in mouth. Good condition. Great thing about good British cask conditioned beers is that wide mouthfeeel you can't get anywhere else. Malty and rich and rather a good example of this beer. Decent hop on finish. |

I do like this pub. The landlord gives you a friendly welcome and we had a bit of a chat about his guest beers. He seems to get through them quite quickly. I was here a week ago and he had got through several of the beers on his chalkboard. The Greene King IPA, he said, was the only regular and that the other 3 handpulls were used for guest beers. Jennings Sneck Lifter and Dorothy Goodbody's Golden Ale were the next ones due on.
Bath Ales - Barnstormer | 4.50 | | Very deep ruby colour with thick lasting beige head. Maybe getting towards the end of the barrel as it took a bit of pumping to get the pint, which killed some of the carbonation in the glass. Very nice dark ale though. Juicy dark fruits, plums, but not sour and good choc flavours. Finish is really quite drying. Extremely drinkable. Lovely finish. Choc and ark fruit aroam. Some sweet blackberry. Brilliant pint. Full and rich with a bit of puckering of the mouth on the finish. |
Adnams - Broadside | 4.70 | Not Tried
Greene King - IPA (was 3.6%) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Eagle (formerly Wells & Young's, formerly Charles Wells, formerly Wells) - Wells Bombardier (now superseded by 4.1% version) | 4.30 | Not Tried
