Here for the launch of a new Otley Brewery beer, brewed ‘in collaboration with’ Melissa Cole – who is at the bar directing operations.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Ilkley - The Green Goddess5.50ExcellentA very complex beer. It is a strong, spicy Belgian ale heavily flavoured with green hops. The Belgian-ness comes from the use of La Chouffe yeast and the addition of spices including Szechwan pepper and nigella seed. The green hops used are Sovereign.
Dark Star - Kiwi4.00GoodA pale gold, very fruity, hoppy taste. Perhaps could do with a little more malt body.
Ilkley - Dinner Ale3.30AcceptableTasted a bit feeble coming after three very distinctive, strongly flavoured beers. Will have to try it again another day.

Here for the presentation of the East London & City CAMRA Pub of the Year Award – pretty impressive for a pub that only reopened last June. Very busy indeed.

London Fields - Love Not War4.20GoodReddish/brown best bitter with spicy/peppery hop.
Grain - 3.1.6.3.90GoodPale, dry beer with lager malt and plenty of hops.
Brentwood - Red Roar4.40AcceptableHouse beer, free to help yourself to from jugs. Red/brown and sweetish.

The CAMRA group I was with rolled on to this pub, which remained busy right up to closing time.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Mighty Oak - Whuppity Scorie4.20GoodPale and hoppy, but with more malt character than some from this brewery.

Very crowded in here on Saturday evening, with bouncers on the door. I got away with my ‘hoody’ – fortunately it seems they were just there to keep out the kids, rather than barring the door to riff-raff like us.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Fat Cat - Cougar4.70GoodPale and citrus hoppy without being over-hopped.
Summer Wine (SWB) - Resistance Dark Mild3.70GoodHop free, black mild. Slightly sour hint.
Dark Star - Partridge Best Bitter4.00GoodRoutine best bitter.
Grain - Tap Room Bitter3.40AcceptableMalt-led ordinary bitter. Nutty.

Very busy in here tonight – our group was fortunate to get a table.

Otley - Oxymoron5.50ExcellentA smooth chocolatey, black bitter with a lingering hoppy finish.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Hoxton Special IPA6.60ExcellentDeep gold in colour, strong and very hoppy. Floral and orangey.

Thronged and bustling from early evening.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Redemption - Big Chief5.50ExcellentA serious, grown-up, amber beer with very heavy hopping that creeps up on you to become a sustained bitter finish.
Brodie's (latterly contract brewed by Rhymney) - Shoreditch Sunshine3.80ExcellentA golden bitter with tingly carbonation and strong, bitter hopping.
Camden Town - Bleeding Hop IPA6.40AcceptableOn keg dispense. A deep amber, almost brown beer. Hops struggling to be heard over the background metallic carbonation and too low a temperature. Probably a good beer, I would like to find a cask-conditioned version of this.

A large early evening crowd in. Mostly younger generation, and all enjoying the good selection of beers and food. I've been overdosing on hops lately - so it's time for an evening on the dark side.
BeerABVScoreNotes
Grain - Blackwood Stout5.00ExcellentPitch black with a smooth mouthfeel. Dry and roasty with just the subtest hints of smoke and coffee.
Revolutions - Clash London Porter4.50ExcellentBlack, roasty and delicious. A proper Porter.
East London (ELB) - Nightwatchman4.50GoodDeep red in colour, this is quite a complex beer with a smooth mouthfeel, just a hint of 'Old Ale' sourness, leading in to a long, hoppy finish.

The pub is found in Leytonstone, Greater London, E11 3AA.

A large, historic (founded by 1670) town centre pub. Famous in the 60s and 70s as a live music venue, it has hosted such famous names as Led Zeppelin, Yes, Genesis and Roxy Music, plus local heroes Atomic Rooster. But knocked around and abused in recent years under a succession of themes. Taken over by Antic and re-opened in June 2011 as a 'traditional pub'. Instantly immensely popular. There is a large main bar with big tables for sharing, more of a dining lay-out to the part-screened rear area, and there is a big yard at the back. Pavement tables too. During 2019 the ballroom has been brought back into use and hotel accommodation is now available.

We have visited this pub 37 times, seen 230 different beers and tried 85 of them.
