Quite lunchtime visit. The two of us sitting in the bar & two in the garden. Barman busy sorting out pump clips, seems that there were a few casks of Goachers ales in the cellar as he was placing said brewery “s pump clips on the coming soon pole.
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 5 | 4.40 | | Excellent proper best bitter, delicious malt with excellent long lingering notes of biscuit. Top stuff |

Mid evening for a couple of pints. This has to consistently be the best pub in Canterbury for choice of interesting ales and very reasonable prices*. About a dozen drinkers in - good ambience. “Like a rolling stone” on the jukebox just before I left.
* still priced by ABV - tonight 4.3 and under @ £3.50, 4.5 @ £3.60 and 4.8 @ 3.70

Lunchtime- a group of us here to try Gadd’s “freedom day” brew: Booster. I arrived a bit late - just as the barrel was going on - ordered 4 pints at the bar and was served just like in the good old days. Let’s hope it lasts.
(4 other ales on, not noted)
St Austell - Proper Job | 4.50 | | I really wanted to score the Booster higher - but after 2 pints of that I have to say that the Proper Job just had the edge. |
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - Booster | 4.20 | | A special brew from Gadd’s to celebrate the end of most COVID restrictions. I believe that this has been supplied FOC to the pubs to help them recover. A light flowery number that went down very well. |

A few minutes after 17.30 opening I was the second customer for a short while when another couple of folk came in. Friendly and relaxed atmosphere with soft background music playing.
Five Points - Best | 4.10 | | More akin to an IPA than a best bitter, golden with caramel and smoky hints. |
Saltaire - Cascade Pale Ale | 4.80 | | Rather sweet and syrupy for my palate |
Goacher's - Gold Star | 5.10 | Not Tried
St Austell - Trelawny | 3.80 | Not Tried
Goacher's - Real Mild Ale (now use separate 3.4% entry) | 3.60 | Not Tried

Early Saturday evening - all seats in the front bar reserved for the England match (the TV only goes on here for special occasions).
The variety of ales here continues to impress.
I sat in the garden and had a good chat about the construction of the original Thames Tunnel at Rotherhithe.
Surrey Hills - Greensand IPA | 4.60 | | Great body and condition. |
Kent - The Quiet American | 4.20 | | Another very good brew from Kent, dry and fruity. |
St Austell - Tribute | 4.20 | Not Tried
Musket - Trigger | 3.60 | Not Tried
Grey Trees - Mosaic Pale Ale | 4.20 | Not Tried
Bellfield - Session Ale | 3.80 | Not Tried

Rather a dry Father’s Day - so I treated myself to a couple of pints here early evening. Small group in with landlady Katrina in good form telling stories of the shenanigans of the estate agents regarding her attempt to get the Two Doves in Canterbury reopened.
Saw Jaipur - and didn’t then note all the others on.
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Jaipur | 5.90
Redemption - Pale Ale | 3.80 | Not Tried
01 May 2021 (Jack William)

Lunchtime - just after noon First one in and my first post lockdown #3 proper pint. Plenty of tables in the extended garden. More ales on - but I didn’t note them once I heard “Bishops Farewell”.

Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 5 | 4.40 | Not Tried
Kent - Cobnut | 4.10 | Not Tried

Here by myself - 3 other senior gentlemen with similar ideas - each of us sitting in our own partitioned space. The partitions are well done - and I appreciate Chris E’s sentiments about it being snug-like, but I found it more like a library atmosphere tonight. I did eventually get chatting to and interesting chap though.
Box Steam - Tunnel Vision | 4.20 | | Don’t recall seeing this beer so far east- but it travels well. |
Salopian - Lemon Dream | 4.50
Adnams - Southwold Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
Iron Pier - Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried
02 Oct 2020 (Magnus Greel)
Mid evening and busy, all tables taken apart from the perch bar along the wall so we opted for that rather than the covered outside area.
