Lunchtime - just after noon First one in and my first post lockdown #3 proper pint. Plenty of tables in the extended garden. More ales on - but I didn’t note them once I heard “Bishops Farewell”.
Oakham - Bishops Farewell | 4.60 | | Gorgeous. |
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 5 | 4.40 | Not Tried
Kent - Cobnut | 4.10 | Not Tried

Here by myself - 3 other senior gentlemen with similar ideas - each of us sitting in our own partitioned space. The partitions are well done - and I appreciate Chris E’s sentiments about it being snug-like, but I found it more like a library atmosphere tonight. I did eventually get chatting to and interesting chap though.
Box Steam - Tunnel Vision | 4.20 | | Don’t recall seeing this beer so far east- but it travels well. |
Salopian - Lemon Dream | 4.50
Adnams - Southwold Bitter | 3.70 | Not Tried
Iron Pier - Bitter | 4.00 | Not Tried
02 Oct 2020 (Magnus Greel)
Mid evening and busy, all tables taken apart from the perch bar along the wall so we opted for that rather than the covered outside area.
Kent - Prohibition | 4.80 | | Spotting this I prohibited myself from trying anything else. |
Butcombe - Bitter (or Original Beer) | 4.00 | Not Tried
St Austell - Tribute | 4.20 | Not Tried
Oakham - Inferno | 4.00 | Not Tried

St Austell - Trelawny | 3.80 | Not Tried
08 Sep 2020 (ChrisE)
Punctual opening at 12:00. We were the only customers for the first forty five minutes or so. Good COVID precautions here, entry is from Havelock Street, perspex screens on the bar and between tables. Table service only, exit is from the rear in to Old Ruttington Street.
I like having screens between tables, it reminds me of old fashioned snugs and drinking booths.
Goacher's - Fine Light Ale | 3.70
Oakham - JHB | 3.80 | | |
Five Points - Pale | 4.40 | Not Tried
New Bristol - My Mosaic Romance | 4.50 | Not Tried
23 Aug 2020 (Jack William)
Sunday lunchtime - I sat in the garden and enjoyed the peace and quiet near the middle of the city.
Redemption - Hopspur | 4.50 | | I lied - having put my notes on here I saw that this other Redemption ale was on - superb. |
Redemption - Rock the Kazbek | 4.00 | | New barrel - I enjoyed this enough to stick on it. |
Butcombe - Bitter (or Original Beer) | 4.00 | Not Tried
Adnams - Ghost Ship | 4.50 | Not Tried
St Austell - Trelawny | 3.80 | Not Tried
11 Aug 2020 (Jack William)
Early evening- the newly extended garden was very busy.
Much talk about the refugees landing on the Kent coast - the government has clearly done a good job at diverting attention from the main issues of the day. I didn’t join in.
Kent - Mandarina | 4.50 | | Superb beer full of body and citrus flavour. |
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 5 | 4.40 | Not Tried
Kent - Cobnut | 4.10 | Not Tried
Kent - Brewers Reserve | 5.00 | Not Tried
Musket - Trigger | 3.60 | Not Tried
12 Jul 2020 (Jack William)
Late Sunday afternoon visit. The garden has been extended by the demolition of a small garage. Table service throughout as COVID-19 precautions and plastic screens around the bar. A good few tables occupied outside. Very pleasant.
Kent - Session Pale | 3.70 | | Sparklingly fresh. |
Anarchy - X-Ray Eyes | 5.70 | | Unfined - a superb peachy, full bodied beer. |
St Austell - Tribute | 4.20 | Not Tried
Brew Foundation (brewed at Wincle) - C-Bomb | 4.20 | Not Tried
Butcombe - Original | 4.00 | Not Tried

Well this just about wraps up my recent foray of Canterbury pubs - for a short while. Joined my son and friends for a few.
Quietish - but the jukebox was being well used for nostalgic tunes.
Kent - Brewers Reserve | 5.00 | | Great body, easy drinking. |
Kent - Yule Log | 4.50 | | On key-keg - very good, smooth, dark beer. |
Bad Seed - Flare Star | 4.20 | | A pale ale in good nick - not much in the way of flavour - but I am struggling with a December lurgy that seems to have attacked my senses of taste and smell. |
Ramsgate Brewery (Gadds') - No. 7 | 3.80 | Not Tried
Kent - Cobnut | 4.10 | Not Tried
Moor - So'Hop | 4.10 | Not Tried

Tiny Rebel - Pump up the Jam | 5.00 | Not Tried
20 Nov 2019 (Jack William)
Early evening visit to celebrate the end of a few days decorating. I left my cold, gloss-smelling lounge to sit and warm up in front of the roaring wood burning stove and enjoy the classic sounds from the jukebox.
7 ales on in all - but didn’t note them all.
Kent - Mandarina | 4.50 | | So good I didn’t try any of the other tempting brews. |
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Jaipur | 5.90 | Not Tried
St Austell - Trelawny | 3.80 | Not Tried
