"The tequila sun is rising and the Harveys Bristol moon is sinking"
BrewDog - Edge | 3.20 | | Hoppy as hell but not a mild in anyone's dictionary |
13 Nov 2010 (Ian)
My last Saturday night living just round the corner so I celebrated by being well here. I will miss living in the centre of town. Even if it is pretty poor for beer. Quiet here as people daving for Xmas
Goffs - White Knight | 4.70 | | Bizarrely been on twice in recent weeks. Its an ok strongish bitter with some fryity syrup character. |
Batemans - Wheat Dreams | 4.60 | Not Tried
Caledonian - Heineken Flying Dutchman Junibier | 4.30 | Not Tried

Here on the rather flimsy reason that I just did not to go home
Cairngorm - Black Gold | 4.40 | | Lovely roast aroma then good fullness in mouth then good dark fruit on finish. Touch of smokey ashtray. Great though. |
Everards (see entries against Joule's & Robinsons whilst its new brewery was being built) - Birra del Borgo Castagnale | 4.40 | | I liked this more this time round. Smooth dark ale. |

Sunday night not busy. I only came to try out my new android phone. Will be adding pub visits in real time now as long as there ias wifi
Mordue - Coriander 1879 | 4.90 | | First beer rated on my new android phone. Clear deep chestnut colour lasting cream head. Yes it has some kind of spice in there whether i could tell it was coriander i would doubt. Soft in mouth with some ok malt. Fairly light in mouth with not much dryness. In fact some more spice on finish. Condition is fine too. Ok if not exactly exciting. |

First day of Autumn BF and good times for me.
Banks's - UCB | 5.30 | | Brown, thin beige head. Some sherbert hop on aroma. Well you can tell it’s got simcoe hop on the finish too. Touch of fart on aroma, along with hop. Touch empty on malts but love the hoppy finish. Bit too farty but finishing hops are good.
|
Exe Valley - Autumn Glory | 4.50 | | OK bitter. |
Marston's - Lion Stout | 5.00 | | Black, lasting dark beige head. It’s fine, some interesting almost meaty stout flavours. It’s okm but just a little lacking somewhere. Lacks intensity. OK. But disappointing. Not 5% ABV feel either, watery in mouth. Some choc on finish.

I met Bob Thompson and Ian in here before a visit to the Abigale Brewery, which should commence commercial production soon. The usual mix of customers, and two guest ales. We returned later and found free samples of curry.
Cairngorm - Black Gold | 4.40 | | A very enjoyable dark beer. Ian commented that this was better than he had drunk elsewhere. |
Greene King - Abbot | 5.00 | Not Tried
Greene King - Ruddles Best (was 3.7%) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Otter - Bright | 4.30 | Not Tried

I met up with local beer luminaries Bob Thompson BLO for Shepherd Neame and Chris Excell BLO for Abigale Brewery (Whinger on this site) for a beer before visiting the said Abigale brewery. Usual mix of middle of the day clientele. We worked out that although only have 2 guest ales on at any one time might be less than adventurous, it's not like they are turning the beers over that quickly, so actually having 2 beers in good condition is preferable to having more beers on in poor condition.
Cairngorm - Black Gold | 4.40 | | I've had poor experiences with this beer, especially in terms of diacetyl, but this was very good indeed. Very drinkable, good dark roasted malts. Each pint disappeared without much difficulty. |

Dead quiet. A whole one side closed off as reserved too, with no one in it.
Phoenix - Navvy | 3.80 | | Wow the hops on this are huge and gives good tangerine and orange flavours. The hops on the finish are excellent and stand out. |

Saturday lunch time, and I decided to come in here for some of the Thornbridge Hall Kipling before it went. All the real ales seemed to be selling well today, I enjoyed my pint then left via the rear door to catch a bus to Maidstone.
Thornbridge / Thornbridge Hall - Kipling | 5.20 | | This was superb, perhaps a little too cold, but still extremely enjoyable. |
Greene King - Abbot | 5.00 | Not Tried
Greene King - Ruddles Best (was 3.7%) | 3.40 | Not Tried
Caledonian - Mellow Yellow | 4.40 | Not Tried
